Do you do much black powder? I have a .54 caliber Hawkins plus some pistols, all .44.
I have a TC New Englander in 50 cal, two 1970’s model H&R Huntsman’s in 58 cal, a more modern New England Arms Huntsman in 50 cal. Have killed deer with them all but I’ve killed so many with the New England Arms Huntsman. When I target shoot, I prefer using the smoke poles. With the primer shortage I’ve invested in a No. 11 primer making kit so I can make my own out of pop cans.
I’m always tinkering with molded bullets, using the drill press to hollow point some, trying to create the most accurate and lethal load. Like I said in an earlier post, I keep resisting buying a Crocket 32 cal for squirrel hunting, hoping the urge will pass soon. Getting harder to resist every time another one pops up on my SM feed.
I’ve had various pistols but don’t currently have one. The coolest one I had was from an old man at church. He had modified an old Kentucky musket, making it shorter to make it easier to carry. He made a stock and fashioned a pistol out of the part of the barrel he cut off. It was surprisingly accurate.
My cousin also has a small cannon that we fire off at celebrations…4th of July and New Years. But we use Pyrodex in that because it is cheaper than black powder.
Love messing with black powder guns. My wife doesn’t mind me using the sink to clean them either.
