Taiwan extends military service as China dials up pressure
Taiwan’s president has announced that compulsory military service will increase from four months to one year.

Taiwan will extend compulsory military service from its current four months to one year starting from 2024, President Tsai Ing-wen announced on Tuesday, as the self-ruled island comes under increasing Chinese military pressure.

Speaking after a national security meeting she had called to discuss reinforcing the island’s civil defence, Tsai said Taiwan wanted peace but needed to be able to defend itself.

I'll bet that all those young Taiwanese are really grateful to Pelosi for enabling their absence from their careers and education in order to be schooled in Sinophobia and to dress like an idiot while sticking a bayonet into a strawman.

If China invades Taiwan,....as we all know they eventually will, it will be VERY interesting to see how all the Ukraine war cheerleaders react to the situation. Both in here, and the politicians in DC. Very very similar situations in many ways. My bet is those same cheerleaders will react MUCH differently. ;)

IMO the cheerleaders will be caught between the proverbial devil and the deep blue sea. :)

Taiwan IS Chinese- and universally recognized as such. I'm wondering how international law applies to a third party- the US- taking military action against a sovereign state- China- attempting to secure part of its own sovereign territory from a breakaway faction.
Agreed, Crimea is a very similar scenario- and the US didn't interfere directly, militarily.

Not for about 80 years. There are generations of Taiwanese who have lived lives free of Chinese oppression and domination. They like it that way.

That's so- but it's a matter of international territorial recognition . Just 13 countries recognize Taiwan as an independent state. The US does not.

The people of the Donbas and Crimea see themselves as Russian. Not much chance of the US supporting ' self-determination ' there.

Right, Nancy ?

And I don't give a shit what governments think in terms of recognizing Taiwan or not.
They just do that for fear of pissing off China.
NO OTHER REASON.

Most humans (including most Taiwanese) think of Taiwan and China as two, SEPARATE nations.

The end.

For once, I agree with America's foreign policy in this case.

Taiwan clearly does not wish to be part of mainland China.
The VAST majority of their citizens feel that way.

https://www.taipeitimes.com/News/front/archives/2021/12/30/2003770419

Unfortunately, China's economy is growing, far faster than America's.
And their military is also growing, FAR faster than America's.
Eventually, barring something unforeseen, China will pass America in military power.

And then?
There will be little America can do to help poor Taiwan.
Short of nuclear weapons (which I assume will not be used in defense of Taiwan).

Sadly, I fear Taiwan will not be independent for much longer.
Two or three generations...at most.

I'll bet that all those young Taiwanese are really grateful to Pelosi for enabling their absence from their careers and education in order to be schooled in Sinophobia and to dress like an idiot while sticking a bayonet into a strawman.

Yeah, the great threat to the shaky peace between Taiwan and mainland China is......Nancy Pelosi.

When 2276?

WRONG!!!!

No, just 13 countries recognize Taiwan as a sovereign state.

image-2022-12-28-115036751.png

' Universally ' was a tad incorrect- but the majority of the 13 are tiny island states .

guatemala-population

So ' Taiwan is almost universally recognized as being Chinese ' The US does NOT recognize Taiwan as an independent state.

Yeah, the great threat to the shaky peace between Taiwan and mainland China is......Nancy Pelosi.

She most certainly precipitated the current troubles. Anybody that does not ignore China knows that.

This dumbass wanted a patriotic swan-song.

So what? That means almost NOTHING to me.

As I typed...the ONLY reason they do that is because they don't DARE piss off the most powerful, economy in the world (even larger than America's - depending on how you measure it).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)

Yet I have proven that the VAST majority of human beings think of China and Taiwan as two states.

Besides?
What is your angle on this?
That what the Taiwanese people want (which is OVERWHELMINGLY to NOT be ruled/directly part of Mainland China) means nothing?

Yes or no?

That's probably the same ' vast majority ' that thinks Israel has been invaded and occupied by Arabs.

Haw, haw................................haw.

You've ' proven ' NOTHING. You've produced a poll.

Again- only 13 states recognize Taiwan as independent- and the US isn't one of them.

Taiwan is NOT independent. Taiwan has no UN representation, not even as an observer state. Taiwan is Chinese.

Pelosi is a self-serving liability.

1) Show me the link that proves that most countries would not recognize Taiwan as a separate nation if the PRC no longer threatened to break relations with any nation that recognized Taiwan as a separate nation?

I GUARANTEE THAT YOU CAN PROVIDE NO SUCH LINK.
Which proves you cannot factually prove that they do not recognize Taiwan, solely due to the PRC's threat against them.

2) and stop being a fucking coward and answer the fucking question?

Does what the Taiwanese people want (which is OVERWHELMINGLY to NOT be ruled/directly part of Mainland China) mean nothing?

Yes or no?

Ohhh..and earth to your fucking brain?

Show me the link that proves that all countries but 13 consider Taiwan and China as the SAME NATION IN ALL RESPECTS?

Well...asswipe?

The contention, my potty-mouthed addlepate, is that Taiwan IS Chinese under law. Fact.

Your struggles to mind-read the populations of foreign states in order to provide a fig-leaf for your error are really funny. Has your paranoia been diagnosed ?

I will ask you one, last time you demented, rage-filled, Chinese Communist Party Representative:

Either stop being a coward and answer the questions put to you?

Or I waste no more time on your pathetic, pro-Communist Chinese Party bullshit.

I don't blame you for your hasty retreat. It really would have no effect on the law if your spurious polls and charts were meaningful.

Taiwan is Chinese by law. Tough tittie.

Potty-mouth your way out of that, my paranoid simpleton.

Post a link to unbiased, factual proof that the above polls are 'spurious'?

If (when) you cannot?
Then your assertions they are, are baseless.

Do you support the Chinese Communist Party?

Yes or no?

We all know what you will do. You will do exactly what you are doing now, cowardly whining for appeasement. You think that if we sacrifice the Ukrainians, Putin will spare us.

We are being asked to sacrifice so little, but you are too much of a coward to even sacrifice that little. China is counting on people like you.

Taiwan IS Chinese- and universally recognized as such.

In the last 127 years, China and Taiwan were united for only 4 years, 73 years ago. They share a language, but under that theory, America, Ireland, and Australia are all part of England.

Nixon sold out Taiwan, but that is not universal. It is time we push for legal separation where de facto separation has existed for 73 years.
