Then when did it change and why? Chelsea was a constant target and still is. The Bush girls only appeared in the news when they acted like GW did when he was their age. LOL The RWNJs, Pedo Nazis and the like all took shots at Malia and Sasha.

Part of the problem, IMO, is the Internet. Forums have been around for 25+ years but social media has only picked up over the last decade. The COVID pandemic increased the reliance upon social media for social contact.

IMO, the correlation between social media, the pandemic and increasing teen mental health problems is clear.

So what does the Left and Right do? Blame each other for it instead of working to fix it.

I was alive at the time, everyone was proud that as much as the Clintons were hated Chelsea was left out of it 99.9% of the time. THe Clintons said that they appreciated it.

How can it be fixed w/o violating the First Amendment? About the only thing we can do -- which is what we ARE doing -- is bring awareness. We arm parents and teachers and other people who are around kids to detect signs of bullying and depression, and help the child get help. Even just having someone to talk to, who's sympathetic and understanding, can help immensely.

Despite the sincere efforts of do-gooders, it's impossible to legislate morality. This is a social problem that is primarily caused by a lack of civility throughout the nation. A society that believes each person is more special than the other and only accepts the facts, alternative or not, that they like while labeling everything they dislike as lies regardless of the facts.

Note how the hate on Pelosi came close to the murder of Paul Pelosi.

Note how the Insurrection is labeled as a peaceful protest where the violent attackers have a "right" to be in the "People's House" to destroy it and murder those working in it.

Note how the global pandemic and the fucked up US response is placed on the back of Fauci, not the President who hid it from the public for several months beginning December 2019.

There is no law that can fix the attitude of a nation consumed with serving itself and not the country as a whole. The old aphorism is true, "In a democracy people get the leaders they deserve."

We, the People keep supporting political parties that serve themselves and not the nation. Do that long enough, and we end up with a divided, dysfunctional national government that is both violent and authoritarian.
