Tragedy at Dallas air show.....

It looks like the P-63 pilot (the other plane involved) was rolled away from the B-17 and likely couldn't see it from his cockpit. The B-17 really couldn't dodge or do anything to avoid this accident.

That would be a mistake in situational awareness that ended up fatal.

That would be gross incompetence.

I will be very interested to hear who this pilot was....if we are allowed to know.....which cant be assumed in 2022.

The CAF does airshows around the nation. Bombers are usually named. This one was "Texas Raiders" and had red trim.

When I worked at Gulf Stream in Savannah the CFA used the airport to stage a few airshows for myrtle beach and charleston, B-17 and Russian Yaks , seeing them running up close on the taxi way was amazing

The Bell P-63 Kingcobra were used by the Red airforce in WWII and the B-17 bombed the shit out of Germany

Also yesterday?

(40% of the men are veterans) were homeless.

This is utter bullshit. The reason veterans are grossly overrated in surveys of homeless people is they are only required to self-report. That is the survey taker asks if they're a veteran, and if the person answers "yes," they suddenly are a veteran. There is no verification process, and homeless men have every reason to lie if they think it will get them something.

Art imitates life. If you were a veteran, like me, and whenever you saw a transient panhandling with a sign about being a veteran and asked--like I do,

"So, which branch were you in?" "What was your MOS (NEC AFSC as appropriate)?" "Where were stationed?"

Real veterans can tell you that in an instant. US Navy, 3384 nuclear power electrician, USS Nashville, USS Enterprise, NSA Bahrain, etc. They can't. They claim that status to get sympathy and more money.
The few that are homeless are mostly not the sort that served well. Most are "veterans" for having managed to do 90 + days in the service before screwing up and getting booted out for something (often drug use).

Why is it important to you to know who the pilot was

Because a really bad thing happened vie either pilot error or malevolence, and I would like it to not happen again. I have heard reports in recent years that as the old timers have died much younger often not well trained pilots have taken over flying these planes at airshows. Maybe we need a new certification program run by the FAA.

I've seen that building in Savannah. Was the 8th Air Force museum there when you were there? https://www.mightyeighth.org/

The names of all the deceased will be revealed pending notification of next of kin. As for #10, being irrational, is making this a conspiracy theory.

Maybe, maybe not....and how did the Air Boss fail this big?

I need to hear about this Air Boss.
Feel free to spout all the conspiracy theories you like.

The organizers of the airshow are taking heat for this accident. They were lucky no one on the ground was hurt or killed.

I dont need you permission to wonder who failed here, and how they failed so catastrophically.

Absolutely

There are two other options....malevolent suicide or the small plane pilot had a medical emergency. Otherwise this was a massive failure of competence, on a scale that has been rarely seen in America up till now, but this is 2022......deep into the next Dark Age.

It's been a few years, but IIRC, I only remember the building in the upper right quadrant across from the terminal.

Also in the past few years they spent half a billion on new buildings and infrastructure and taxiways also developed land on the airports north side (expanded the airport) and underground tunnel for car traffic along the perimiter road

I did both systems and structures manufacturing Engineering for the 650
