Two vintage WWII military aircraft participating in an airshow near Dallas, collided in midair then immediately crashed into the ground and exploded in flames.

A Bell P-63 King Cobra collided with a B-17 Flying Fortress. Total killed hasn't been released pending notification of next of kin, but a spokesperson noted that the B-17 was typically carrying 4-5 people (it had crew of 10 in WWII) and the P-63 was a single-seat aircraft.

That was just horrible to see. I'm glad you weren't there.

I've never seen an accident as it happened, but have seen plenty of the results.

Why the P-63 flew directly into the B-17 is a mystery, but my guess is that he became complacent and was looking down, not out to his front.

A similar thing happened with Sully's USAir flight; he was looking down at the Hudson and even commented upon it when they hit the flock of birds. In that case, the FO was flying and, presumably, head down on his instruments during climbout.

Local news is confirming six dead from yesterday's mid-air collision:

6 Dead After 2 Planes Crash Mid-Flight During Airshow in Dallas, County Judge
A Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a Bell P-63 Kingcobra collided and crashed to the ground at the Wings Over Dallas Airshow around 1:20 p.m. Saturday, according to the FAA.

"It's like literally as you looked up you saw the big plane and then you saw one of the little planes split off from the three and then as soon as it split off it's like they just collided into each other and the little plane split the big plane in half. I honestly can't believe that we witnessed that, like just standing here underneath it." said Morgan Curry who saw the crash from a nearby parking lot. "We were all just standing there like 'what just happened?'"

Hundreds of people visit the annual Wings Over Dallas Airshow every year. Those who attended Saturday recorded the crash on their phones.
Curry said she has been going to the airshow for years and never witnessed anything like it.

A total of six people were killed, according to a tweet from Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. Authorities will continue working on the investigation and identification of the victims.

Looks like he hit the B 17 on purpose

I have a very old car, but at least I keep it on the ground.

The aviators just wanted to give the people a nice show, but the fighter pilot must have had a heart attack or something.
The fighter went right at the bomber, and why would it be on purpose?

Doubtful it was on purpose. He was in a bank and probably looking down or back.

who knows...i just said it looks like he took a turn and headed right into the B-17...his plane didn't turn on its own!

If you watch the entire video you'll see he was following another fighter. He was probably looking for that aircraft to his front left instead of paying attention to what was directly in front of him.

I started a thread on this YESTERDAY. You started this thread TODAY. You are behind the times AS USUAL. Have you been taking HCQ enemas ?

Whines that he doesn't get credit for posting first. :rofl2:

Only fucking morons and crooks push HCQ as a COVID cure. If they ever had a medical license, it should be pulled for malpractice should one idiot ever suggest using it. How many people died as a result of using Facebook remedies instead of getting a vaccination and following CDC advice?
