Republicans against supporting Ukraine are actually in the minority of their own party. There’s nothing to be concerned about, but yes , it is perplexing.
My fellow libertarians are probably also against support for Ukraine. They tend to be against participation in any war for any reason.
That’s where I break from them.
But think about who was the most ardent supporter of war… John McCain. A Republican. He probably would have declared war on Russia by now.
Bush II was a war monger. I doubt he would have backed away from aiding Ukraine.
I suspect the Republicans against helping Ukraine are the nationalists.
Technically, we are begging the Saudis to provide oil to the world market. We do not want the oil ourselves, we want the price of oil to remain low.
We have been begging the Saudis for this for more than 50 years. Now we have started getting tough on the Saudis. If they do not want to treat us as allies, we do not have to treat them as allies.

I hope you are right that mainstream Republicans can keep a lid on the MAGA contingent wanting to abandon Ukraine.

Low key, I'll tell you my secret. I don't like to do anything in the streets so I keep it indoors. At every family (holiday) gathering I make it a point to pop a cap in at least one relative who disagrees with me politically. To me, shooting family members shows you are truly down for the cause and earns legit street cred. So when the time comes when I do take the streets people will be like 'damn, homeboy is an OG - he'll kill his own family".

Americans aren't being asked to really sacrifice to support Ukraine, so I don't think this means much either tangibly or electorally, except at the margins.
Americans were tired of fighting in 1944, and they really were being asked to sacrifice.
