No, you gave the government statistic on immigration cases. Most immigration cases are not asylum cases.

Beyond that you tried to link that number to the number of border encounters in a year, claiming that all the encounters became asylum cases. That is not true. The immigration case backlog goes back for years, so there are previous years cases involved too.

This is because of the so-called wet-foot, dry-foot policy, which since 1995 has granted Cubans who touch American soil a privilege not afforded other immigrants who come without a visa: the right to stay and get on a fast track to citizenship.

Obama ended this interpretation of the policy.

There is no such policy for those crossing our borders illegally from Mexico.

So, when an illegal crosses our borders illegally to apply for asylum, he/she does so illegally.

There is a procedure and a place to apply for asylum and it doesn’t involve swimming across the Rio Grande and crossing our borders without documentation.

Children have to appear in immigration court. If for no other reason, just to establish custody. And then there is the question of asylum, which if requested is a court case, whatever the age of the asylum applicant is.

We have seen court cases where a 6 year old who does not speak a word of English is forced to argue his own case (without a lawyer) in immigration court. It gets absurd sometimes, especially when trump was running things.

I can reread it as many times as I like, it will not change what is written. It said there is a backlog of immigration cases. Asylum is a defense in an immigration case, so there would not be exact statistics on that. It is impossible to know what defense the defendant will use before they have used it.

District Judge Robert R. Summerhays, a Trump appointee in Lafayette, ruled that the Biden administration violated administrative law when it announced in April that it planned to halt Title 42, a health order aimed at preventing the spread of communicable diseases in the country, on Monday.
