ACT test scores the lowest in over 30 years

The class of 2022′s average ACT composite score was 19.8 out of 36, marking the first time since 1991 that the average score was below 20. What’s more, an increasing number of high school students failed to meet any of the subject-area benchmarks set by the ACT — showing a decline in preparedness for college-level coursework.

The test scores, made public in a report Wednesday, show 42% of ACT-tested graduates in the class of 2022 met none of the subject benchmarks in English, reading, science and math, which are indicators of how well students are expected to perform in corresponding college courses.

In comparison, 38% of test takers in 2021 failed to meet any of the benchmarks.

Surely this means that it is time to outlaw the test. There is no way the students of today are as smart as the students of 30 years ago, the test must have been made easier.
 
The reality is likely worse that it looks, as there has been a massive drop in the number of people taking the tests as universities increasingly either dont want test score or they have made them optional on the claims that the tests are racist. The drop in test takers almost certainly skews towards those who would have done less well.
 
The fact that Americans are becoming increasingly stupid isn't exactly news,

Our commitment to public education is pathetic, and our tolerance for religious superstition is self-destructive.

This is just another way that the founders fucked up.
They should have opted for freedom FROM, not OF, religion.

If we got the looney tunes and their bullshit "faith-based" schools out of the way, we could concentrate on serious public education.

It's the Pandemic, stupid. While I completely agree our education can do better (e.g. year round schools), the drop is due to the Pandemic.

The pandemic was mismanaged to devastating effect, but academic performance was dropping well before that.

Both links point out they don’t know the cause although the study does point out some possible factors including how we measure IQ.

While the phenomenon is interesting it should be a concern. Finding out the cause, be it how we test or environmental factors, should be important.

The authors of the study suggest that it could be due to environmental factors. These could include anything from what we eat, to the air we breathe, to other daily lifestyle choices.

It could be that as technology does more and more tasks for us we become less intelligent. It's possibly due to changes in how mathematics and languages are taught, or even because we spend so much time on smartphones and computers.

The drop in IQ scores isn’t limited to Norwegians: the authors say that this trend is evident in several other countries.

What is intelligence anyway?

Perhaps it could be that our intelligence can’t be measured accurately by the old systems anymore.

When you see IQ scores are dipping that means progress on all these fronts is hampered, which leads to lower discoveries, stagnant economies, and a dimmer future for the population.

The US has not hit the same thing. But this is nothing to cheer for, as it can either signify that they are not an advanced economy or that they too would see the drop in the upcoming future

The US does not mass test for IQ.
They convert SAT scores (which is NOT an accurate way to do it).
So he CANNOT know that IQ scores in America are not dropping.
