ACT test scores the lowest in over 30 years

To rephrase, I support sex education and access to effective contraceptives, but that only solves part of the problem.

Do you agree stupid and/or mentally ill people are less likely to use such measures? Which, IMO, is the main problem.

Well, yeah.. obviously stupid or mentally ill people make many poor decisions. But most kids aren't mentally ill and aren't ready to be parents, thus the need for proper healthcare education and access to birth control which the GOP is trying to cut off. The GOP, by their religious misguidedness and ignorance are perpetuating the population issue.

Most people aren’t mentally ill, but do seem to go through mental health issues be it anxiety about the world, a death in the family, too much pressure to succeed in class, etc.

I grew up on the era of “duck and cover”, the constant threat of nuclear annihilation. Is there any doubt that such a threat would cause anxiety among kids?

Only last year there were LW JPP members pooh-pooing the threat at the time. Flash forward to this year and there is growing concern (read “anxiety”) about the long-term effects of even a short, limited nuclear exchange.

Again, agreed on kids, but since they are minors, it’s their parents who make the decisions. Should “the State” take all kids from parents who can’t pass an IQ and mental health exam? If not, then what can be done?

Yep, a public education in America will make you stupid these days, but it will shape you into a good little protester and woke jackass at the same time...

Here in Arizona, the state just passed a law that allows parents to apply for a voucher worth about $7,000 a semester to send their child(ren) to any school, public or private, they choose. The teacher's union HATEs it. The Left HATEs it. The Democrats HATE it. Those groups don't want parents to decide what's right and good for their children. They want you forced to send them to a public school that likely will do a thoroughly shitty job of educating them in anything that will result in their being able to get a good paying job and be a responsible adult when they grow up.

Fuck the Left!

Not sure what you're asking - I've never advocated for kids to be taken from their folks, what I'm suggesting is that we offer our kids better access to healthcare and education about birds and bees. These are the things the Republicans want to take away.

It's like you're trying to start an argument with me I'm not making. Why do you do this? It's weird.

I would like to believe that's true, but I have my serious doubts.

It's what the data shows. You can claim correlation doesn't equal causation but our education system was better when people were more religious.

In reality though this has nothing to do with religion. For starters you keep kids out of school for as long as we did this really isn't surprising. Combine that with lowering of standards under the guise of equity and is it surprising kids aren't doing as well on this test? I'd say not.

The fact that Americans are becoming increasingly stupid isn't exactly news,

Our commitment to public education is pathetic, and our tolerance for religious superstition is self-destructive.

This is just another way that the founders fucked up.
They should have opted for freedom FROM, not OF, religion.

If we got the looney tunes and their bullshit "faith-based" schools out of the way, we could concentrate on serious public education.

Certainly right on target with the lack of commitment to public education

I’m agreeing with you about better healthcare and education for kids. I’m also pointing out that the problem is the parents.

It’s easy to blame “the Republicans” for not supporting better nutrition, education and healthcare. What’s not being remembered is that, for the most part, they are responding to their constituents meaning the parents.

What does that even mean? The ACT test results have dropped five years in a row now I believe. (Leaving aside the fact the test is racist and kids shouldn't have to take it.) So we supported public schools prior to the past five years?

The test isn’t racist. Suggesting that the ACT be available in Ebonics would be racist.

It’s a cost effective means to test intelligence and education for Americans. People who went to an “Everybody gets an ‘A’” school would probably fail…especially if they are 18 years old and illiterate.

That is what my quote with link says......and that the drop is excellerating.

You're a secret Republican - just too ashamed to admit it... just a slightly sneakier TA Gardner.

Search my posts and you’ll find I’ve never denied being a staunch Republican for 38 years. After the RNC blew off the findings of the “Growth & Opportunity Project” I realized that I didn’t leave the Republican Party, but that the Republican Party had left me.

TA’s anchors no longer touch bottom. Mine may skip every once in away, but I do my best to be as rational and honest as possible.

I would like to believe that's true, but I have my serious doubts.

"The secularizing shifts evident in American society so far in the 21st century show no signs of slowing. The latest Pew Research Center survey of the religious composition of the United States finds the religiously unaffiliated share of the public is 6 percentage points higher than it was five years ago and 10 points higher than a decade ago."

Well, thanks for fessing up. You still carry their water though. If trickle-down economics worked, trump's tax cuts, still in effect, would have save the economy. Republicanism - trickle down economics, tax cuts for the rich and corporations, the hurry to bar people of color and minorities from voting, and spending half our GDP on the military - these have always been Republican policies - they've always sucked and hurt America. Nothing has changed except now, realizing they can't govern and they can't win over voters, Republicans now they'll just claim the "system is rigged".

Nice hate rant. Kudos!

Your half truths and lies prove you’d be a great Democrat or Trumper. :)

No son. All I do is report actual history. I stand behind everything I just said. You really should come into the light and vote "D", my friend, if there is any sense of wisdom or patriotism left in you.
