Nobel peace prize is awarded collectively to a Ukrainian human rights group and to two political opposition organizations in Russia and Belarus, respectively.

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded on Friday to human rights advocates in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus who have become symbols of resistance and accountability during the largest ground war in Europe since World War II, set off by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The laureates — Memorial, a Russian organization; the Center for Civil Liberties in Ukraine; and Ales Bialiatski, a jailed Belarusian activist — have emerged as some of the starkest challengers to the widespread misinformation and harmful myths disseminated by authoritarian leaders.

It was basically the committee's implicit condemnation of George Dumbya Bush's invasion of Iraq, and a recognition that Obama was an American leader who opposed the war from the beginning and who promised to end the Bush policy of invade first and ask questions later.

Fo those in need of a clue:
Prize motivation: “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”

Mainly his promises to end the War in Iraq...a huge fucking thorn in the side of all Third World Nations and even our allies. Invading another country was bullshit in 2003 and it's still bullshit in 2022. You should know better, Chief.

Still, unlike the authoritarian cocksuckers who want to dictate what people and private groups do, it was the Swedish committee's choice to give it based more on Hope rather than Deed.

I wouldn't have given it to him, but I'm not an asshole telling the committee what to do. If you want Trump to win, start a campaign to both nominate and vote for him. It's a private fucking committee. Why act like it's Nancy Pelosi and AOC calling the shots? That'd be fucking crazy.

Barack Hussein Obama
The Nobel Peace Prize 2009

Born: 4 August 1961, Honolulu, HI, USA <---time until Trumpers react: 10...9...8...

Residence at the time of the award: USA

Role: 44th President of the United States of America

Prize motivation: “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”

Prize share: 1/1

Inspires Hope for a Better Future
Barack H. Obama, the 44th President of the United States, had been in power for less than eight months when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009. Among the reasons it gave, the Nobel Committee lauded Obama for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”. Emphasis was also given to his support - in word and deed - for the vision of a world free from nuclear weapons.

Even before the election, Obama had advocated dialogue and cooperation across national, ethnic, religious and political dividing lines. As President, he called for a new start to relations between the Muslim world and the West based on common interests and mutual understanding and respect. In accordance with a promise he made during his election campaign, he set in motion a plan for the withdrawal of U.S. occupying forces from Iraq.

During his first year in power, President Obama showed himself to be a strong spokesman for human rights and democracy, and as a constructive supporter of the work being done to put effective measures in place to combat the climate crisis. This is in line with his appeal: “Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges”.

He is a radical contrast compared to the J6 insurrectionists in terms of commitment to truth, moral integrity, and democracy.

Ales Bialiatski: Who is the Nobel Peace Prize winner?

Ales Bialiatski is a prominent Belarusian human rights activist, who is currently being held in prison without trial.

Mr Bialiatski, 60, is the founder of the country's Viasna (Spring) Human Rights Centre, which was set up in 1996 in response to a brutal crackdown of street protests by Belarus's authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

Viasna provided support for the jailed demonstrators and their families, documenting the use of torture against political prisoners by the Belarus authorities.

"He has devoted his life to promoting democracy and peaceful development in his home country," said the head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen, announcing this year's three Nobel Peace Prize winners.

He was detained again in 2021 following massive street protests over what opposition activists say were rigged elections that kept Mr Lukashenko in power the previous year.

"Government authorities have repeatedly sought to silence Ales Bialiatski," Ms Reiss-Andersen said.

"Despite tremendous personal hardship, Mr Bialiatski has not yielded an inch in his fight for human rights and democracy in Belarus," she added.

Anyone who pushes to help people rather than strip them of their rights is okay with me.

Yep. Trump with the Abraham Accords did much more than Obama

The Abraham Accords were in process many years before trump, all the abrab states who were signatories were never at war with Israel

For several years, backchannel ties between Israel and some Gulf Arab states have been developing in the shadows. While Israel is not shy about the relationship, the Gulf states have hoped to keep their rapprochement with Israel under wraps for obvious reasons pertaining to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Yet increasing diplomatic exposure has brought the relationship out into the open and signaled possible momentum toward the establishment of formal relations for the first time.

After Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s official visit to Oman in October—the first for an Israeli head of state since 1996—he has been vocal in his intentions to build on that by solidifying ties with other states, including Bahrain.

Yeah. He basically got it for not being Bush and the ultimate irony is that, to at least some on the left, Obama was a Bush like warmonger.
