I tried to warn them that Ukraine had a large, modern, well equiped army which could inflict substantial pain. Ukraine's military probably ranks in or near the world's top 20.

The Viet Cong were an insurgent militia, and the North Vietnamese army was no match for the US Army on a toe to toe basis

The US was in Vietnam for about a decade and lost over 56K men. The Russians have been in Ukraine for less than a year and have already lost over 20K men. Why else is Putin threatening nukes if he wasn't desperate about getting his ass kicked?

The difference is mainly the difference between guerilla war and conventional war coupled it seems with the poor motivation and training of Russian soldiers.

Why was Vietnam a guerilla war? For the same reason the Arabs switched from conventional war to terrorism: They were getting their asses kicked conventionally.

Guerilla warfare is used when a conventional war cannot be fought. If the West wasn't supplying Ukraine, they, too, would be forced to resort to guerilla warfare.

Sure. The Viet Cong were not equipped or trained for a conventional war. They fought the war they could fight. My point went to the casualty difference you mentioned. But, as you say, it also explains how the VC were able to fight a superpower to a standstill.

The NVA was. They were supported by both the Soviets and PRC.

It's funny that you believe a guerilla force can fight a superpower to a standstill. Isn't the excuse the Democrats use for banning guns is that guerrillas are no match for tanks, bombers and regular military forces? Which is it? LOL
