California moves to ban natural gas furnaces and heaters by 2030

California is committing to a plan that will make it the first U.S. state to phase out gas-fueled furnaces and water heaters in homes, a move environmentalists are betting will provide a template for other states.

The Golden State will ban the sale of all new natural gas-fired space heaters and water-heating appliances by 2030, under a proposal unanimously approved by the California Air Resources Board on Thursday.
 
Retrofitting a home to use electric appliances in place of gas involves some serious money. This is just going to be another major hit on consumers in Cali, particularly renters since landlords will pass the costs on in rent increases.

Interesting to see how this, another in a long line of ignorant, short sighted decisions, will hasten the departure of people from CA to other more reasonable states. I visualize the entire west coast as a repository for the helpless and hopeless with the very rich remaining in their bubble, until the helppless and hopeless decide to interrupt the lifestyle of the rich and famous. California is the largest dumb fuck liberal state in this country. All rational people do is point out their vapid stupidity. When things fail there (as they always do) California looks to the Federal Govt ( the rest of us) to bail them out.
Rational America is getting really tired of handouts to liberals without a clue.

figures, they abuse their water tables for decades but want to lead by example. Our whole house uses NG including the oven, stove, Hot water unit, pool heater unit. It is the cleanest most economical way, that is why they hate it.

First off, California is one of the leading Blue States paying Red States to balance their budgets, and without California, with it’s GDP, and a few other Blue States, what is left of the US would resemble Albania

The chances that this happen are near zero....the current regime cant force the hand of the people who will be in charge 2030, and by that time CA will look much different than it does now as it descends further into deprivation and chaos.

Natural gas is one of the cleanest fuel on the planet. It also leaks out of the ground faster if you don't drill and extract it, and a much worse greenhouse gas than the CO2 emitted when it is burned. This is an uber-dumb decision and not based on science at all.
