"Don't go to college, go to a trade school"

Anyway.. myself and a bunch of others graduated with BA's in business then we all got rich, bought houses, and had kids.

I'm FB friends my retired HS wrestling coach and music teachers. At least back then, teaching was a rewarding career.

I'm sorry your life's been such failure.
Drive and work ethic will make you just as 'rich' as someone with a BA.

LOL. Probably not, but he 'knows' a Black person

Actually he's one of 60 teachers in the country who have been chosen to teach AP African American History classes this fall.

The First A.P. African American Studies Class Is Coming This Fall

The new course will undergo a pilot program in 60 schools, as the debate over how to teach history becomes ever more divisive.

But yeah, to you guys he's just some black dude. Can't really hide your true feelings huh? And what's funny is my old teacher posted the meme about people making good money in the trades, something you do as opposed to others on here who mock non college degreed folks like yourself.

Oh, I agree. I'm a salesperson now. I work with some other great people who didn't go to college. You don't need a college degree to sell - unless it's some kind of specialized tech you're selling where you need an IT degree.

College degrees are a bit over-rated.

Corporate America has always been allowed to use the College Degree Requirement as a tool to legally discriminate against minorities and Older Employees who don't have degrees.

I know some companies like Perot Systems for example, that require all employees to have a degree- even for the secretary pool and security positions.
Yup. I've seen court clerks with 25 years of experience (no degree) passed over for positions in bigger courts for kids just out of college.

That makes absolutely no sense.

Vo-tech is the third highest regretful "degree", only a couple points behind humanities and social sciences.

The average union tradesman in Boston makes over $ 120.00 an hour with benefits. Straight time, not OT. Think about that idiot. As well as you Cypress. You stupid welfare collecting fuck.

You have to define 'worthless'.

In our rigged system, you must have a degree to get a job in many fields. So that business degree leaves you dumber than many who have not gone to college, but it will land you the job while the latter has no chance.

Worthless. Those are degrees that employers don't look for to directly hire for jobs. Those are the sort that are good for getting an entry level job as the night manager of a Walgreens because it is assumed you can read, write, and balance out a cash register.

Basically a democrats dream. Sets them up for voting the same way.

Here is the actual government study. Notice there is no mention of "regret."

"Forty-eight percent of
those who studied the humanities and arts, and 46 percent of those who studied social and
behavioral sciences, said they would choose a different field. In comparison, a lower share
(24 percent) of those who studied engineering said they would have chosen a different field"

Too many qualifiers to put a stamp on either position in this discussion.

With a nation that values profit over society, many people might have regrets because they simply cannot find a job in their field. Most of the jobs went overseas. My friend's son graduated RIT with an engineering degree about 10 years ago.

His resume was one in a stack of 100 for ONE open position with G.E.. He got the job, but that left 99 others out in the cold.

BTW...

Karl Rove
Bill Gates
Mark Zuckerberg
Michael Dell (Dell computers)
Jack Dorsey (Twitter)
Ralph Lauren
Ted Turner
Steve Jobs
Richard Branson
Simon Cowell
And too many to mention all became successful without college degrees.
They do have drive, and ambition, though

Completing more education was the most common change that those with less education would
have made if they were able to make a change. Sixty-seven percent of those without a college
degree and 61 percent of those with an associate degree said they would like to have completed
more education
(figure 36). For those with a bachelor’s degree or more, choosing a different field
of study (37 percent) was the most common change they would make to their education. Few
people of any education level said they would have completed less education if they could make
their decisions again.

Could that be because they think back on their college days fondly?

They are the ones who want the government (you and me) to pay off their student loans.
Isn't it time that those who aren't wealthy had some sort of relief from the govt.?

During Covid, why didn't the govt. just give more money to those who were out of work, instead of dumping trillions on Wall St?

So those with investments saw record dividends, and those who didn't starved.

I'm really not going to sweat a $10,000 handout to students.

Well, shithead, you make a valid point but prove to the board that you are a moron.

And the claim was about 'average' wages. There a plenty of tradesmen/women working for $20/hour if they're lucky

Maybe in upper state NY. A blue state. The rest of the country? Not so much welfare boy.

And that position will not be available to someone without any degree, regardless if they are more qualified than the person with the degree.

Not that unusual.

When I graduated we were in a recession, and I had to work odd jobs until my career path really hit stride.

That's why I don't put much stock in anecdotal stories of 22 year old philosophy grads working at Starbucks somehow being a harbinger of the worthlessness of humanities degrees. Nobody ever asks what these baristas ended up doing by the time they reached 40 years old.

These are the same people who criticized AOC for temporarily working as a bartender after college to help her financially-strapped mother.

I knew a couple 22 year old history majors who had to take construction and painting jobs after graduating, and before they could really get on track with professional careers.

That's why pointing to the 22 year old philosophy grad working at Starbucks is a ridiculous to supposedly prove how worthless a humanities degree is. You have to take into account what those people did professionally over the long term, into their 30s, 40s, and 50s.
