Tesla Model 3 named winner in KBB’s 5-Year Cost to Own Awards 2022. MAGA wets panties

Dream on, ExcessLies. My Tesla Model Y would smoke your stupid little gas truck.

Tesla Model Y Goes From 0 To 60 Mph Faster Than What Tesla Claims

In total, there were three attempts to have the best time for the Model Y. Out of the three attempts, the Tesla Model Y 0 to 60mph timing was 3.30 seconds. On the company’s official website, it is 3.50 seconds, which is slower by two-tenths of a second. Real-world 0-60 mph acceleration tests of the Tesla Model Y Performance are proving that the all-electric crossover is quicker than what the company advertises.

Tesla claims in its online configurator for the Model Y that the dual-motor Performance variant can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. This is the case for both the Model Y Performance with 19″ Gemini wheels as well as the Model Y with Performance Upgrade package that includes larger brakes and 21″ Uberturbine wheels.

However, in a series of real-world Model Y 0 to 60 mph acceleration tests conducted by Erik of the DÆrik Youtube channel, Tesla’s newest 5-seater crossover managed to stop the clocks at a lightning-quick 3.30 seconds.

Fool I didn't buy my truck to race. I have a 730 hp 2008 Shelby for that. I put a 2.9 Whipple on it ,larger injectors, larger throttle body larger Kenne Bell BOOST-A-PUMP, larger intercooler, 3.73 gears, lowered, adjustable shocks, drag radials, aluminum driveshaft, line lock etc it runs in the high 9s. I run it on E 85 with 19 lbs of boost. But let's put my 5th wheel on your electric wheelchair and see how well it does.

Well, my Tesla Dual Motor Model Y would kick your 14 year old Shelby as well. Don't worry. Maybe one day, you'll be able to afford a Tesla, too.

Eh, maybe not.

Tesla Model 3 named as one of the winners in KBB’s 5-Year Cost to Own Awards for 2022

The Tesla Model 3 was recently deemed by Kelley Blue Book as one of the winners in its 5-Year Cost to Own Awards for 2022. KBB’s 5-Year Cost to Own Award explores the costs associated with the ownership of a vehicle. This includes the vehicle’s price, maintenance costs, fuel or charging rates, any state tax, and registration fees, as well as a car’s depreciation over a 5-year ownership period, among others.

As per the automotive research company, the 2022 Tesla Model 3 leads the “Electric Luxury Vehicle” segment with a 5-year cost to own of $48,233. According to Kelley Blue Book, the Model 3’s 5-year cost to own is $16,411 less than the segment average. This is quite impressive, especially considering that the Model 3 is Tesla’s entry-level vehicle today.

The fact that the Model 3 was dubbed by KBB as one of the winners in its 2022 5-Year Cost to Own Awards is quite unsurprising, especially if one were to consider that electric vehicles like Teslas do not need as much maintenance as their internal combustion engine-powered counterparts. And being part of Tesla’s ecosystem, the Model 3 enjoys a number of perks that some of its rivals in the “Electric Luxury Vehicle” segment do not enjoy as well, such as Supercharging rates, which are extremely convenient and affordable

Tesla model 3's need the same maintenance as any other car. You still have to wash it. You still have to change the oil from time to time (though not as often as a gasoline car). You still have paint and body dings. You still have defective equipment that needs to be fixed. Tesla, in particular, has a lot of recalls on their cars, which don't exist for most cars. This award also doesn't include the price of additional hotels when taking these cars on a cross country trip.

You never really own a Tesla. Tesla Corp can reach into and change programming in your car every time you charge at one of their stations.

Quite true. You may own the car (most people lease them, due to their very high prices), but you don't own the software.

You talk about politics making for interesting bedfellows. You have Elon Musk who has been called a Nazi, a supporter of white supremacy, runs a racist company (Tesla) and could be responsible for the end of our democracy but he makes a car that liberals like and conservatives (supposedly) don't.

If someone wants to buy an electric car, fine. I despise being forced to pay for your car though, or being forced to buy an electric car. It is pretty hilarious this love/hate relationship Democrats have with Elon Musk.

There is no democracy.

Do you own the software on your iPad? How about your desktop? Your cell phone?

Gee, all these things wrong with EVs. I wonder why people are buying them up like crazy and EV sales are through the roof.

Something seems askew

EV sales in June hit Record high despite recession

Even as many markets around the world enter recession, electric vehicle sales had a record month in June.

CleanTechnica reported earlier today that EV sales spiked in June, showing once again that the car market has been unaffected by the recession in many parts of the world. The list of top-selling EVs and PHEVs is led by the Model Y and Model 3, a trend that is far from an isolated incident. The pair of Tesla mass-market vehicles were then followed by the Wuling Mini EV in third place.

Electric Cars' Turning Point May Be Happening as U.S. Sales Numbers Start Climb
EVs are still far from mainstream, but a 60 percent rise in new-EV registrations is definitely a sign they're getting closer.

Mass-market EVs have been available in the U.S. for more than a decade, but there have only been small, incremental changes in electric car sales for most of that time.
However, in the first three months of 2022, EV registrations shot up a huge 60 percent even as the overall market was down 18 percent, according to a report by Automotive News.
With great U.S. EV sales comes great charging station responsibility, and figuring out how to offer public charging options to all of these early adopters is an ongoing concern.
Update (8/8/22): This piece now includes additional information related to electric car sales in the United States.

American car shoppers appear to have discovered electric vehicles. After a decade of slow but steady sales growth, electric vehicle registrations in the U.S. shot up 60 percent in the first quarter of 2022, even as overall new car registrations dropped 18 percent, per a report by Automotive News that used data collected by financial data firm Experian. It’s the latest indication that domestic EV acceptance may have turned some important but invisible corner recently.

Global electric car sales have continued their strong growth in 2022 after breaking records last year

Electric car sales powered through 2021 and have remained strong so far in 2022, but ensuring future growth will demand greater efforts to diversify battery manufacturing and critical mineral supplies to reduce the risks of bottlenecks and price rises, according to the International Energy Agency.

Sales of electric cars (including fully electric and plug-in hybrids) doubled in 2021 to a new record of 6.6 million, with more now sold each week than in the whole of 2012, according to the latest edition of the annual Global Electric Vehicle Outlook. Despite strains along global supply chains, sales kept rising strongly into 2022, with 2 million electric cars sold worldwide in the first quarter, up by three-quarters from the same period a year earlier. The number of electric cars on the world’s roads by the end of 2021 was about 16.5 million, triple the amount in 2018.

In China, electric car sales nearly tripled in 2021 to 3.3 million, accounting for about half of the global total. Sales also grew strongly in Europe (increasing by 65% to 2.3 million) and the United States (more than doubling to 630 000). Chinese electric cars are typically smaller than in other markets. Alongside lower manufacturing costs, this has significantly reduced the price gap with traditional cars. The median price of an electric car in China was only 10% more than that of conventional offerings, compared with 45% to 50% on average in other major markets. By contrast, electric car sales are lagging in most emerging and developing economies where only a few models are often available and at prices that are unaffordable for mass-market consumers.

TESLA FACING UNPRECEDENTED DEMAND

Tesla is currently facing an “unprecedented demand,” according to a Wall Street analyst after a visit with management at Gigafactory Berlin.

Despite the price for its electric vehicles going up significantly this year, there have been many indications that Tesla is experiencing strong demand. We reported on Tesla’s order rate surging to record highs in the US when gas prices went up earlier this year. Tesla even stopped taking orders on some versions of its vehicles because the backlogs were becoming too long.

Last week, Tesla held an event for analysts at Gigafactory Berlin, and Pierre Ferragu of New Street Research participated.

In a note to clients, Ferragu noted that he sees Tesla facing “unprecedented demand”:

Tesla is facing unprecedented demand. Everybody I know at Tesla and with whom I could discuss that topic agrees that demand is way above what hopes were a few years ago. Electric cars are so popular that for Tesla and their competitors, market shares will mostly be dictated by their ability to ramp volumes.

The analyst came out of the visit, impressed by the efficiency of Gigafactory Berlin.

He wrote:

Compared to Fremont, Berlin is visibly much more efficient. Logistics inside the factory are much simpler, eased by docks surrounding the fab from all sides and ensuring parts come in at the right place in the manufacturing chain. The single manufacturing line is designed for a cycle time of 45 seconds and will deliver 10,000 cars per week at full capacity. (On a side note, it takes just above 5 full days non-stop to do 10,000 cars at 45 seconds per car, so this target accounts for a healthy 25% downtime.) Most importantly, cars are manufactured today with a rear casting, and will shift to rear and front casting as soon as the 4680 structural battery packs will be available.

Ferragu has a price target of $530 on Tesla’s stock, which represents a significant upside on the current value of $275 a share.

Long term, Ferragu even sees a case for Tesla being worth $10 trillion by 2030, but that’s based on the automaker achieving its goal to produce 20 million electric vehicles per year by then. For comparison, that’s about four times Apple’s current valuation.

AMONG LUXURY EVs.

YOU'RE A MORON.

Just because you can't afford one, don't take it out on me, Grokmasturbater.

Just because you're stupid enough to present a luxury car award as proof of great affordability, don't blow me shit for pointing out your inexperienced idiocy.

I take LONG road trips ,for which EVs are USELESS, AT ANY COST...unless you like sitting for hours daily to recharge ,or being stranded with no charging stations nearby.

One of my not-so-bright democrat acquaintances couldn't make it from Brownsburg, In. to Columbus , OH. in one.

EVs are nothing more than a novelty, for URBAN ONLY errand runners; they have no place among real travelers.
