The person making a claim is required to provide evidence. If I make an absurd claim about you, it's not your job to disprove it; it would be my job to prove my claim.

That's not how it works. A defense attorney just has to posit a reasonable theory to shed doubt on the prosecution's case, then let the jurors decide.
