Women Having To Flee States With Insane Restrictions on Abortions

EE...not sure of what in hell you are doing, but you really gotta get a grip.

Walt wrote: "We will already have the worst maternal mortality rate in the industrial world."

You posted that long list in rebuttal to that.

BUT I DO NOT SEE A SINGLE COUNTRY FROM THE INDUSTRIALIZED WORLD ON YOUR LIST WITH A HIGHER RATE THAN OURS.

The list YOU posted shows Walt to be correct.

So how can you claim that you are correct...and he wrong?

First off I am not arguing for or against abortion! I don't give a fat rats ass where we stand against other G7 nations on maternal deaths. That is a problem the medical community needs to address. Walt's argument is we need abortion to stem maternal deaths which is bullshit! I say ok to abortion if the states allow it. What is the fucking problem with that? You either support the constitution or you don't.

ADDED: It is not an abortion issue but a constitutional issue what is so fucking hard to understand?

Hello Walt,

https://www.economist.com/united-st...ful-maternal-mortality-rate-looks-set-to-rise

We will already have the worst maternal mortality rate in the industrial world. Where a typical country has three mortality out of 100,000 live births, while the USA has a mortality rate of 17 (more than five times higher). States like Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee, are becoming illegal, already had mortality rates above 30. They will get much worse.

There are about 3.6 million births per year in the USA. If the mortality rate goes up by 10, there will be 3,600 more women that die. If you think abortion is murder, that might not be a lot of deaths. There might be about 600,000 abortions per year, and anti-abortion laws in some states might reduce the number of abortions by 10%. That would be 60,000 fetuses (or "unborn babies" as the Republicans call them). Maybe 3,600 women dying is worth saving 60,000...

But we should not lie. This is going to kill women.

But it is mostly black women and babies paying this ultimate price, so Trump supporters don't care.

Basically, if you support Trump, you are a racist.

YOU (nor I) are not the ones who decide if the issue of abortion is up to the federal government (as a Constitutionally provided right) or something each state can decide for itself. THE FUCKING SCOTUS IS THE ONE THAT DECIDES THAT.

And the SCOTUS decided that it was a right guaranteed by the Constitution...which has been the case since Roe was originally decided in 1973. It was the law of the land for about half a century. The fucking lying jerk-offs who were installed by McConnell pretended they were going to abide by stare decisis with regard to Roe...but then overturned it.

So don't give me that fucking Constitutional horse shit.

What is so hard for you to understand that?

Hello BartenderElite,

Abortion isn't the issue. The issue is individual liberty.

Some support it. Some don't.

Well if we want America to have a chance for more responsible government then abortion IS the #1 issue.

Recent poll results aired on PBS Newshour: Number one motivator for Republican voters, no big surprise, the economy. Number one motivator for Democratic voters, no, not the economy. Abortion rights.

The hard right SCOTUS decision has reshuffled the deck for November.

I am not anti abortion but I do support the constitution and abortion is covered by states rights if a state wants to allow or ban abortion you have no say in the matter. If a woman wants an abortion nothing stops her from going to a nearby state, and don't give me the lefty the poor will suffer bus fare is relatively inexpensive. In fact less than $50 in most cases.

For someone living in Louisiana the nearest state that allows abortions will likely be Kansas.
Bus from New Orleans to Kansas City is $237 round trip. $380 if you want flexibility on when you can come back. And it only takes 26 hours one way.
Not an inconvenience at all for the poor. They would only have to miss 4 days of work.

So tell us again how cheap the bus fair is.

EAGLE EYE, ASSHATZOMBIE, AND EVERYONE ELSE ON THE AMERICAN RIGHT...

...I am going to say something here germane to the topic...and then start a new thread with that comment as a base.

Six, possibly seven, of the nine Justices of the current SCOTUS are Catholics. (Gorsuch was raised Catholic but MAY consider himself to be Episcopalian.)

Opposition to abortion was never high on the list of things Protestant evangelicals championed until very recently. Catholicism has always had it at the very top of its list.

Until this massive Catholic majority on the SCOTUS took control, after lying to the Senate about how they would handle this issue, the issue was settled law. The reasonable, non-Catholic dominated SCOTUS of earlier years, agreed that a woman had a Constitutional right to an abortion. That right prevailed in America for 50 years.

Protestant evangelicals are the foundation of the American right wing…and it seems the Protestant evangelicals have been had by the Catholics. When the Protestant evangelicals (or perhaps I should say, IF the Protestant evangelicals) finally realize that they have become a pawn of Catholicism…I suspect things will change.

A really good no-holds-barred brawl might turn out to be a good thing, because almost certainly all religion will be damaged as a result.

yes declare war on catholics, that's a good strategy.

religious intolerance is a clear winner.

The reason for that decision is because of Catholicism. It bears a responsibility. If you think we should avoid asking for that responsibility...do so.

I'll laugh at it.

A trip to Kansas City would be useless in seeking an abortion because abortion is illegal in Missouri.

"Abortion is banned in Missouri except in medical emergencies under a law that was triggered after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June.

The deadline to get an abortion-related petition approved before the November election passed in May. But some supporters of abortion rights are looking at Kansas as a guide to get abortion on the ballot in a future election.

“I hope that there are people building a coalition and working on that now,” said state Sen. Lauren Arthur, a Kansas City Democrat. “That was one of my first thoughts, let’s put it on the ballot. I know that our current law is unpopular. I know that a majority of Missourians support some access to abortion rights.” "

Missouri Democrats are hopeful that Kansas vote offers a guide to restoring abortion rights

And America was concerned about electing JFK, because he was Catholic...

life beginning at conception is science. biology to be precise.

Fertilization is a complex multi-step process that is complete in 24 hours. The sperm from a male meets an ovum from a female and forms a zygote; this is the point in which pregnancy begins and leads to a 280-day journey for a female. There are two ways to track this process, and they differ by the day counting begins.

Yeah...and the life of an oak starts with acorn. But a squirrel eating an acorn is NOT eating an oak tree. So shove that bumper sticker where it won't get too much sunlight and fade.

I said relatively inexpensive not cheap like you claim I said. But
I found bus fare from N. O. To Kansas city for about $129.00. To fill many cars from empty can cost 110 bucks. So bus fare isn't that expensive. Also there are many ways the poor could make the trip. Would you like some cheese with your whine?
