In May, Ashley Judd told “Good Morning America” her mother died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“She used a weapon … a firearm,” Ashley Judd said. “So that’s the piece of information we’re very uncomfortable sharing, but understand that we’re in a position, that if we don’t say it, someone else is going to.”

Ashley Judd revealed she found her mother’s body, adding, “I went upstairs to let her know that her good friend was there and I discovered her. I have both grief and trauma from discovering her.”

Making someone the executor doesn't automatically remove anyone else from the will.

I have to wonder why the children aren't as well off as their mother?

Whatever the reason, it was Naomi's wishes and as such, should be honored. We don't know the history and the personal details of the whole situation.

Absent a will, the result would be exactly the same.
It's quite possible she thought this is the simplest way to handle the estate.

Let someone else decide proper handling of the estate, so that she isn't judged for playing favorites.

I'd be interested to see any changes to the will, and the date. It's very common for people to get a taste of money/assets when there are estates involved. My sister did that with my father, which benefitted her to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.

Of course, the husband would have to know that his wife was plotting suicide in order to time any changes to the will.

An oddity is that Naomi was a woman, that she used a pistol instead of pills and that she was 76 years old.
