OTOH, those who actually went to the coup are facing prison. Since many are already in their 40s, they won't be out until qualifying for Social Security. Even those who have light prison sentences or home arrest will have a hard time recouping the costs of their trials and finding a job. Who wants to hire a violent anti-American racist asshole?

Does anyone believe Trump will be charged let alone stand trial for his part in the Jan 6 attack on congress? I fervently hope it happens but I don't believe it will.
I do not know if he will be charged, EE. He certainly should be. I must acknowledge that at times I hope he is...and at other times, I find reasons to hope he is not...and that we allow the stain and shame to be enough. The idea of America trying an ex-president like a common banana republic leaves an acid taste in my mouth. But what Trump, his enablers, and his supporters have done to America, its institutions, and its principles is about as extreme as anything the dictators of banana republics have done.
Whether tried or not...even if convicted on everything he has done...I doubt he will serve prison time. Indefinite house arrest...probably under very tight circumstances, seems much more likely. No fucking golf whatever should be imposed.
