The damaging revelations of the Jan. 6 committee hearings are fueling skepticism among Senate Republicans that former President Trump can win the GOP nomination in 2024 or even run for another term in the White House.
One Republican senator, who requested anonymity to comment on the former president, said the “cascade” of embarrassing details about Trump’s conduct in the weeks before Jan. 6, 2021, and during the attack on the U.S. Capitol will seriously damage his political viability ahead of the 2024 election.
“I don’t think he’ll run again, and that’s a good thing, because of the whole cascade of events,” the senator said, referring to testimony by former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson that Trump lunged at a Secret Service agent who refused to drive him to the Capitol on Jan. 6.
Hutchinson, an aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, is now cooperating with a Justice Department investigation into the Jan. 6 attack, according to media reports.
A second GOP senator, who also requested anonymity, said the overwhelming majority of Republican senators don’t want Trump to be the party’s nominee for president again.
“I could count on one hand the number of Republican senators who want Donald Trump to be our nominee,” said the lawmaker, adding, “I could count it on one finger.”

If Trump doesn’t run that will be the probable reason why, not that he gives a damn about Senators’ preferences, but that he shares their worry, only in his case it is fear. Trump can’t bear being a loser. This may be why we are living through his “stolen election” circus. He invented it as cover. Knowing he has a Pied Piper control over ninety percent or so of his voters, he invented it believing he would get away with it. He sure has. But even Trump couldn’t sell a “stolen election” twice. He won’t risk having to try.

You are foolish to think that every Republican would vote for trump.

I don’t know, everyone is a strong word, but I think Trump could admit to having father three children with his daughter, and not lose more than a very small amount of votes from Republicans.

Fake news, although the last sentence is probably accurate. The Senate is chock full of RINO traitors.

Uniparty Traitors....members of the Swamp.....of course they dont want the people to pick Trump, or anyone at all like him.

Who in the SS corroborated her testimony on grabbing a SS agent and grabbing the steering wheel. LINK?

Trump actually said he "hardly knows" Hutchinson. It's not like he is a Bill Clinton or something.

Why did her story need to be corroborated by the Secret Service? It was up to them to refute it. They were going to have agents testify under oath that that story was false.

What's taking them so long?

You're forgetting Trump's major flaw. He can't walk away from an easy grift that could yield millions. If Trump runs, the donation emails will flow. Even if he doesn't get the GOP nomination, he can run as an independent and rake in the dough from his gullible cult. He'll make another hundred million easy. That would kinda ease the pain of losing another election, don't you think?

I think fear of losing "trumps" everything with him. It began as a lark first time he ran. He had no expectation of winning so his ego, and the obsession with his father, weren't invested in the thing. He was so unprepared for his early success at the polls that he had continued negotiating for a hotel in Moscow well into primaries before he called the negotiations off. When the news broke of that maneuvering there was barely a ripple from his voters, by now committed to him, when any other Presidential contender who tried to simultaneously secretly feather his nest with money from Russia would have been ruined by such news.

....or stay home, as happened to Hillary in 2016. Some crossed over in 2016, but I doubt that would be as prevalent in 2024.

Mostly likely, disgusted party members simply won't vote rather than vote for the opposition. If those two ran, I expect the turnout percentage to drop.

It is estimated that about 13% of those who voted for Obama in 2012 voted for Trump in 2016.

This is why I consider you to be a piss poor excuse for a human being. You just can't resist embellishing the truth ffs. Fortunately most people are on to you now, you truly are an odious human being.

Of course you cant name a single person who lied, or any lies they told. Everyone of these people was a devote Trump supporter, and Republican. We cant do any better than that.

We don't know because no adversarial witnesses were called and there was no cross-examination. For all we know, every witness lied in part or whole.

An interesting number. Why the change?

Other estimates range between 11-15% (8-9 million). I don't remember reading any good analyses of why, but rural areas became more Republican and urban areas more Democratic. In 2020 Biden gain in suburban areas.

If the person thought it would get them ahead, then yes. They really have little to lose by lying, particularly if the lie cannot be, or will not be verified.

It does not matter if they told the truth or not, their careers and lives are at risk.

Would you lie about Biden?

In an adversarial set of testimony? I wouldn't have to. The truth is stranger and more damaging than any bullshit I could make up. In support of Biden? It'd be detected too easily. Biden is an utter fuckup in every way.
