Not a lawyer, but my understanding is that the article of incorporation require them to make a profit as directed by their boards of directors. Corporations are soulless money engines only restricted by the laws of the countries in which they operate. This is one reason why they favor lower income countries.
Have you noticed that the same people who want to hobble the US economy by restricting free trade around the globe with other nations are also often against international global warming initiatives because….wait for it….it would hobble the US economy? LOL
