Which of course is something the Reichwingers are fighting tooth and nail against. They are actively advocating for RWers to run for school boards and control the districts' curriculum (curriculii?) and remove anything that might hurt the little white kids' feelz or make the little black kids pissed. Some push to have Creationism taught alongside actual science. The grandstanding fake-Xtian coach's prayer victory will no doubt lead to more incursions of Xtian prayer and dogma in public schools.
Example: The school district in our locale back in St. Louis was and still is one of the state's most highly-rated public school districts. A crackpot home-schooling fundie Xtian woman ran for a seat on the school board a year or so before we moved. She wanted Creationism taught in h.s. biology classes. She did not want the students to have district-supplied laptops (most of which were donated by Apple). She wanted the district to allocate funds for homeschoolers (WUT?). She lost. But some day, whackjobs like that won't lose, and that top-rated district will dwindle into mediocrity.
