"Trump commanded a mob." Chairman Thompson

Trump will in Jail in 2024

Doubtful....although I think the result will see him restricted to Mar-a-Lago for the rest of his life.

A billion dollars buys a lot of justice in America. This is also political when a third of Republicans are traitors who are too fucking stupid to see through Trump's Big Lie. Additionally, I doubt anyone wants to martyrize Trump. The focus will be to burn down all those who supported his coup and the Big Lie.

I felt sick tonight. If I had overdue parking tickets I'd be in jail by now. No excuse for Trump not to be prosecuted.

I, too, felt sickened by what I saw. As if I expected anything different, but the magnitude of it was nauseating.

Lots of campaign footage in those videos for his opponent, if he chooses to run. Now, the Dems just need to find a viable candidate. I really don’t see one on the horizon right now.

The Republicans need one too. IMO, any who support the Big Lie are not good candidates.

When we had a nation of 13 million in the 18th century, we had so many exceptional men to choose from for President.

Now, we’re at 350+ million and can’t find two.

 An excellent point. The problem, IMO, is that both parties have moved to extremes resulting in only extreme candidates being nominated.

The committee is playing footage of Senator Josh Hawley fleeing the mob. Hawley helped whip up the protests against certifying the electoral college.

...and they laughed at him running. LOL

Perhaps it’s moving in that direction. I see that at the local and state level the most, especially in the Republican Party. But, other than Trump, whom I have to believe was a tragic anomaly, no other final presidential candidates have been that extreme.

DeSantis is a Big Lie supporter and, currently, the most likely Republican candidate.

U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, a Democratic candidate for Governor, pounded Gov. Ron DeSantis for continuing to let conspiracy theories fester.

The St. Petersburg Congressman said the Republican Governor won’t address right-wing extremism or embrace the truth about the November election.

“Three days ago, I challenged Governor DeSantis to reject the Big Lie and launch a bipartisan investigation into Florida-based hate group members and their connections to the January 6th insurrection at our nation’s Capitol,” Crist said. “Our Governor could have done the right thing to keep Floridians safe and stop violent hate groups from organizing in Florida. Instead, he has chosen partisanship and division.”

Crist said DeSantis has refused to openly reject a conspiracy theory that the November election was stolen from Donald Trump. On Jan. 6, Trump supporters sieged the Capitol and disrupted certification of President Joe Biden;s electoral college victory.

He’s probably a Big Lie supporter for political purposes. Who knows? But, he is far superior to another Trump administration.
So he's deliberately violating his oath of office, not just doing it by mistake? Interesting. IMO, that should be a death penalty offense like treason.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, protect, and defend the Constitution and
Government of the United States and of the State of Florida; that I am duly qualified to hold
office under the Constitution of the State, and that I will well and faithfully perform the duties of
(Title of Office) on which I am now about to enter, so help me God.

What I mean is for the time being. It doesn’t serve him well, politically, to outright reject it now and be the object of Trump’s (and his base) ire. Who knows? I may be wrong.

I won’t vote for him, regardless.

You just defined dereliction of duty and cowardice in the face of truth.

IMO, when We, the People condone this behavior, we all lose. It doesn't matter which party does it first or most, it's a loser for the nation.

Barry Goldwater's speech to Congress in 1981 was an example of courage in the face of lies and unAmerican ideology.

....But far too much of the time of Members of Congress and officials in the executive branch is used up dealing with special interest groups on issues like abortion, school busing, ERA, prayer in the schools, and pornography. While these are important moral issues, they are secondary right now to our national security and economic survival.

I must make it clear that I do not condemn these groups for what they believe. I happen to share many of the values emphasized by these organizations.

I, too, believe that we Americans should return to our traditional values concerning morality, family closeness, self-reliance, and a dav's work for a day's pay. These are the values our forebears clung to as they built this Nation into the citadel of freedom it is today.

And I, too, have been pleased with the swing of the pendulum for in recent years to the conservative, moral end of the spectrum.

But I object to certain groups jumping on that pendulum and then claiming that they caused it to swing in the first place.

And I am frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in "A," "B," "C," and "D.'' Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me?

And I am more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every rollcall in the Senate.

I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of conservatism.
