Meanwhile, the SCOTUS just ruled religious and private schools can get public money

I believe that most private Christian schools will not allow tuition aid for the parents of their students. They won't accept those students.

Years ago, at our private school board meeting, we were discussing with our lawyer, tax breaks for parents who pay taxes for their children who never go to public school.

He advised against the effort because government would then have their foot in the door to control private schools.

I believe he was right.

???......obviously not.....there are no tax breaks for people who send their children to private schools, unless you lie and say the tuition is a charitable donation.......

”High court rules religious schools can get Maine tuition aid”

“The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that Maine can’t exclude religious schools from a program that offers tuition aid for private education, a decision that could ease religious organizations’ access to taxpayer money.”

“Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for a conservative majority that the program violates the Constitution’s protections for religious freedoms.”

“Maine’s ‘nonsectarian’ requirement for its otherwise generally available tuition assistance payments violates the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. Regardless of how the benefit and restriction are described, the program operates to identify and exclude otherwise eligible schools on the basis of their religious exercise,” Roberts wrote.”

So, if I am not mistaken, Roberts is saying not funding religious schools violates their freedom of religion, which is bizarre by any understanding, guess the Establishment Clause doesn’t exist anymore on the right

Does this mean that those schools have to teach by law anyone who appears at their door, that they can’t reject or throw out students as public schools are required? Will Universities as Norte Dame down the road be entities to the same public funding?

Should be interesting when the ruling gets interpreted and applied in the Red States when such as the the Nation of Islam, which teaches CRT on steroids, or, the Atheist Republic apply for funding for starting primary schools.

And we still have big decisions on guns, equal rights, elections, and of course abortion, still to come

WRONG. THEY RULED THAT THE PARENTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHO EDUCATES THEIR CHILDREN, AND CONTROL THE TAX MONEY THEY PAID FOR THAT .

SCHOOL TEACHERS DON'T EVEN WANT THEIR KIDS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AND MOST DON'T HAVE THEM THERE.

It's THEIR (the Parents) MONEY, TOO, paid by their taxes. ,for their child's education.

THEY GET TO CHOOSE WHERE TO SPEND ,AND WHO EDUCATES THEIR CHILD...EVEN THE FRENCH ARE THAT SMART.

Correct.

We were discussing ways to influence legislators to get a tax break but the lawyer advised that it would open the door to eventual government control.

I believe he was right.

Indeed.

My daughter-in-law taught in public school for years but when our grandson was four, she enrolled him in a private school in which she was just hired to teach.

I love a happy ending!.

So do I. Grok.

My three children (now with college degrees) all attended private school and all of my five (soon to be six) are either attending private school or will be when they reach school age.

Anecdotal...yes but a true story.

Poor anchovies, Maybe best if you question why the public schools are losing students to alternative schools. Think bullshit like CRT and wokeism have anything to do with that fact?

All public schools? And just as many alternate schools are losing students to public schools, in fact, most charter schools fail

And again, the thread is on the Trump Court laying the groundwork for the public funding of private including religious schools, hardly what the Founders envisioned as the separation of Church and State

Correct, Anchovies, it doesn't violate an imaginary "separation of church and state" because that phrase is not in the Constitution.

This is what is in the Religion Clause" of the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the FREE EXERCISE THEREOF..."

Since the ruling prevents Maine from excluding religious schools from a program that offers tuition aid for private education, there is no violation of the Constitution.

Poor Anchovies.

What a minute, “imaginary?” Last I knew teaching religious doctrine is pretty much establishing a religion

With your logic tomorrow morning the Government at any level can ban the production, exchange and sale of all bullets in the US since no where in the Constitution does it say bullets are a right

Now all of a sudden you lefties are bringing us back to the founding fathers and the constitution? You clowns seem to selectively embrace the words founding fathers and the constitution.

If you believe that kids are leaving alternative schools and coming back to public schools your argument is nonsensical.

Methinks you panic fae too easily.

its not up to the red states to decide where vouchers are sent.......that is up to the parents........if a parent really wants her children taught by the Atheist Republic all she has to do is enroll them in their schools......of course, they'll have to start a school first.....

It is straight funding, and you got to be living in DisneyWorld if you think those Red States are ever going to fund schools as say those started by Farrakhan, as I said, they are going ballistic of CRT not being taught, can’t imagine what they would do with a school directly teaching such

You kidding, all those evangelical schools will be over the money

Awesome!!! Now I can get a tuition voucher for Hogwarts! Or maybe The Church of Satan K-12 Academy!

Seriously, this is going to open a huge can of worms.

On the other hand I was recently reading that the Revolution has a plan to basically rub out charter schools, how they operate will be micro managed.

Will those churches now be required to pay taxes now ? Don't think so. Will churches now be required to be in conformance with state educational requirements? Don't hold your breath

Will all minority religious schools like Muslims and Jews get funding ? This will be interesting!
The people who go to those churches pay taxes moron. Do public schools pay taxes.

Yes. Why not? Aren't they religious schools?

We understand what it says, unlike the right, who only comprehend what they want it to say

Over fifty percent of all charter schools fail, did you think all those students ran off to jump into another charter school?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/educ...high-closure-rates-charter-schools-over-time/
https://districtadministration.com/charter-schools-fail-at-astounding-rate-report-says/

Which still leaves the question, how is the government funding religious education not a violation of the Establishment Clause?

Forget Trump U, Trump can start a elementary school, “the doctrine of the deal,” and charge top dollar, there would be a waiting list of lemmings
