“Texas Could Vote to Secede From U.S. in 2023 as GOP Pushes for Referendum”

Republicans say shit like this because they know it gets their base riled up because their base are ignorant to facts and oblivious of the Constitution and anything that sounds remotely like "sticking it to the libs" is just fine with them...even if it ends up hurting them as well.

What it does do is allow TX to divide itself in to 5 states. This alone would be a better option because it would give TX and the right 8 more senators, allowing them to control that branch.

"The text of the subsequent Texas Admission Act, signed on 29 December 1845, states that Texas would be admitted to the Union "on an equal footing with the original States in all respects whatever," which moots any supposed special right for Texas to divide itself up into five states without the future approval of Congress in accordance to Article V, Section 3, of the US Constitution."

“Texas Republicans are pushing for a referendum to decide whether the state should secede from the U.S.”

“The demand for Texans to be allowed to vote on the issue in 2023 was one of many measures adopted in the Texas GOP's party platform following last week's state convention in Houston.”

“Under a section titled "State Sovereignty," the platform states: "Pursuant to Article 1, Section 1, of the Texas Constitution, the federal government has impaired our right of local self-government. Therefore, federally mandated legislation that infringes upon the 10th Amendment rights of Texas should be ignored, opposed, refused, and nullified.”

Could the rest of the country be so lucky?
You had better go ahead and buy Tesla.

Texas is the top crude oil- and natural gas-producing state in the nation. In 2021, Texas accounted for 43% of the nation's crude oil production and 25% of its marketed natural gas production.

Oh wait since the majority of electricity is generated using natural gas those Teslas made in Texas may not have electricity to charge them.

And you might think about going vegetarian because Texas is the top beef producing state in the Union.

how can all the migrants flood into the Tx border if there is no Texas?

would put a real crimp in outsourced manufacture as much of that traffic goes through Tejas and they could just say no to allowing it to continue or throw in some massive taxes.

Well in that case seditious repuke creatures of Texas must pay their share of the national debt at over $40 billion and deal with federal issues:

The Supremacy Clause of the Constitution of the United States (Article VI, Clause 2) establishes that the Constitution, federal laws made pursuant to it, and treaties made under its authority, constitute the "supreme Law of the Land", and thus take priority over any conflicting state laws."

I don't suppose they're planning to re-join Mexico?

That’s easy, just like when Abbott pulled his border inspection stunt, you reroute things through New Mexico :)

Where are they going to sell it?

You kidding, Trump built something like twenty eight miles of actual new wall, the vast majority of spending went to repair and replacing wall, and the majority of that was already in the planning stage before Trump took office, besides, Mexico never delivered with the money
Yes Trump replaced and old deteriorated ineffective wall with new wall that works where it is installed. Hell, a lot of the old wall was made with old helicopter landing pads left over from the Vietnam war.

It’s embarrassing.

The recent Texas Republican Party platform is proof of their insanity.

https://www.texastribune.org/2022/06/18/republican-party-texas-convention-cornyn/
The new platform would call for:

  • Requiring Texas students “to learn about the humanity of the preborn child,” including teaching that life begins at fertilization and requiring students to listen to live ultrasounds of gestating fetuses.
  • Amending the Texas Constitution to remove the Legislature’s power “to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime.”
  • Treating homosexuality as “an abnormal lifestyle choice,” language that was not included in the 2018 or 2020 party platforms.
  • Deeming gender identity disorder “a genuine and extremely rare mental health condition,” requiring official documents to adhere to “biological gender,” and allowing civil penalties and monetary compensation to “de-transitioners” who have received gender-affirming surgery, which the platform calls a form of medical malpractice.
  • Changing the U.S. Constitution to cement the number of Supreme Court justices at nine and repeal the 16th Amendment of 1913, which created the federal income tax.
  • Ensuring “freedom to travel” by opposing Biden’s Clean Energy Plan and “California-style, anti-driver policies,” including efforts to turn traffic lanes over for use by pedestrians, cyclists and mass transit.
  • Declaring “all businesses and jobs as essential and a fundamental right,” a response to COVID-19 mandates by Texas cities that required customers to wear masks and limited business hours.
  • Abolishing the Federal Reserve, the nation’s central bank, and guaranteeing the right to use alternatives to cash, including cryptocurrencies.

Abolishing the Federal Reserve, I’d not heard that one, idiocy

In Texas and in Europe to the people that were buying Russian oil. They will buy all we can produce. We will make tons of money and your gas will be north of $10 a gallon if you can find it.
It isn’t going to be pie in the sky as you think, first major natural disaster and Texas will be bankrupt.
