Yes, any gun controls are likely to save some lives. I'm just saying that the scope for saving lives is much greater for handguns. In 2020, only about 3% of gun deaths in the US were listed as having been caused by the kinds of rifles often referred to as assault rifles. When it happens, it tends to be spectacular, since those weapons are especially appealing to the kinds of deranged souls who, when they break, go on horrific shooting rampages. But the vast majority of murders aren't like that. They're done in ones and two, either associated with a crime like the drug trade, or a personal issue with a specific person, and the guns of choice are handguns.
