Almost all police departments have bullet proof vests at least, and can get almost any body armor they want. I doubt they wanted body armor, because they were thinking more of the hot Texas weather than the remote possibility of this happening.

if the kid was wearing the suit you have to assume he's got the protective panels, just common sense.

cops have protocols to specifically prevent doing things willy nilly. and while they may have gotten lucky and nailed him they also risked their stray fire causing collateral damage. very real possibility there Walt.

we know they chose to not follow their protocol and that was wrong but this is also not an everyday occurrence for them and they f*cked up. maybe it was fear, maybe it was 'they aint paying me enough for THIS shit' and yes they have vests but you can still get damaged very badly elsewhere.

I know cops and they are under appreciated (defund the police) I have to cut the some slack over this.

They stood around because their management / supervisors couldn't make a decision to save their--well others in this case--life. It was a case of bureaucratic incompetence by management.

Most policemen do have tactical gear, body armor, assault weapons, piercing ammo in their trunk should they need it.

Not sure why this police force didn't have theirs readily available in their trunks!

But, someone should ask, and if they don't- get them equipped up for the next one!

An elite Customs and Border Protection unit killed a school shooter in Texas on Tuesday after agents became frustrated with inaction from local police, according to a report.

Nineteen children and two adults were murdered by an 18-year-old man at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. Evidence has emerged throughout the week the city’s police department was derelict in its duty to end the massacre.

The Uvalde Police Department had 19 officers outside of a classroom door where the shooter was, yet they neglected to enter for about an hour.

They were waiting on a CPB BORTAC SWAT team, which had investigated a drug stash house near the border, Texas Monthly reported. After speaking with a border patrol official, the outlet noted,

The agents immediately responded, arriving at the school just before noon. Bortac (Border Patrol Tactical Unit) is CBP’s’s paramilitary force, an elite group of agents trained to exchange gunfire with cartels. Border Patrol agents not in the SWAT unit also rushed to the school, for more personal reasons: their own children were in the building.

According to the CBP official, three Bortac agents engaged the shooter in gunfire — with one holding a shield — after entering Robb Elementary along with local and state law-enforcement officers. One Bortac agent was wounded, but not critically. The CBP official told Texas Monthly that it’s “unclear which bullet from which gun” struck the shooter and killed him.

My son is a para medic on the SWAT team that responded to the recent hostage situation in a Jewish temple in Colleyville Texas. The were ordered to stand down for a federal extraction team to arrive. They hostages escaped on their own and the feds just went in and shot the guy. I don’t know if he pointed a weapon at the feds or not.

cops have vests but body armor is not common. its expensive and not really necessary.

and tactical training is different for one cop as opposed to a team.
