Blow me chunderbreath. Don't you think it's cool that the NRA convention is this weekend and that open carry is allowed everywhere in TX - except at the NRA convention? How much of a fucking hypocrite and a gun fucking flame freak can you be?

None of my guns ever hurt anyone while in my possession. The problem isn't the guns but that a nutjob had access to them.
The Democratic solution is to ban all guns. My solution is to screen everyone for mental health issues as part of an annual medical screening process. Preventive medicine is very cost effective. Laws will have to be drawn up to not only require the tests but what to do about the results.
The only reason I can think of on why Democrats don't want to go the Mental Health route is because, if a person is judged to be too mentally ill to own a gun, they should also be too mentally ill to vote. Obviously those who have been successfully treated should have their rights returned.
This has long been trouble without a solution. There was Cruz yesterday, sighing and saying if only more police, as pathetic a picture of a leader as you could imagine. And here, the pathetic threads of back and forth over race.
The problem is our gun culture in the midst of our dysfunctional society. Not much can be done about the guns. By now far too many are out there. And the organic nature of social dysfunctions deprives them of simple fixes. Look at the havoc social media has caused and causes or, again, at the ignorance and incivility on this forum; our own infinitesimal contribution to the mess we are in. You tell me without bullshit how it all can be dealt with.

The current background checks aren't worth a shit, all they do is find out if you are a past convicted felon. A background check that looks more closely at someone's background and a 30 day waiting period to accomplish that check might help. It seems inside of a day or 2 in practically every case it is revealed that the shooter has mental problems. Why don't we make that determination BEFORE someone sells them a gun?
It's against the law to sell firearms to those who have been adjudicated to have a mental disorder. It's on the ATF form to purchase a firearm: https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/4...n-record-over-counter-atf-form-53009/download

Alright. Man. Even though my posting may not reflect it, my emotions are running a little high right now. Yes, the Dems are weak but at least they want what's right - today's Republicans, in my opinion are doing this nation real harm. Did you see the sprint to ID the asshole as an "illegal immigrant" by our Repub buddies? I'm willing to bet a large percentage of the MAGA crowd actually believes that.

Dude, any party that serves itself first and seeks to deprive all Americans of their unalienable rights is an oppressive party and not one I'll belong. Yes, I'm not longer a Republican party member now either for the reasons such as you pointed out.
The Republican party is now an authoritarian Federalist party supporting big government over state's rights.
Not sure which that one was, but there's no reason there isn't a national data base for businesses to check to verify eligibility to work, rent/buy or own a gun.
A pawn shop clerk running a background check doesn't need to know the buyer's medical history, just whether the buyer passes or not. If it's not, then the buyer should be given a code reference number to contact an agency on why his purchase was denied.
