Florida Exodus: Rising Taxes Drive Out Residents

did you read the link.....it is GOVERNMENT insurance that has risen

Yeah government insurance because the ins corps mostly pulled out.

I lived there when this started happening.

I had used State farm ins (home, cars, life) for 30 years and they would not insure my home in FL.
It was 40 miles inland.
Needless to say I no longer use any state Farm ins.

Of course without the govt insurance there would have been no housing bubble in FL. So maybe the govt insurance was a bad idea?

Let the market decide.

If people are stupid enough to build in a hurricane zone....

sloppyhippo.....you're a moron....another pwn from your own link:

your link proves absolutely shit.....you're embarrassing yourself and i'm laughing my ass off...i needed this, thanks!

Can you understand anything? Are you mentally retarded?

The link is there because Alaska is at the top of the list mainly because it taxes oil reserves, not business and people. No other state has such an arrangement.

States at the bottom of the list cannot be taxing much from any source. I'm laughing my ass off. Your embarrassing yourself.

My God, you are mentally retarded. YOU HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO READ STATISTICS. You need to be sterilized so that such stupidity cannot pass on to further generationss.

Yeah, if people are stupid enough to build on the side of a hill like they did on Pacific Coast Highway, with boulders looking like they will tumble down on you when driving, well................

Florida Exodus: Rising Taxes Drive Out Residents

There are many things public officials probably shouldn't do during a severe recession, but no one seems to have told the leaders in Florida about them. One thing, for instance, would be giving a dozen top aides hefty raises while urging a rise in property taxes, as the mayor of Miami-Dade County recently did. Or jacking up already exorbitant hurricane-insurance premiums, as Florida's government-run property insurer just did. Or sending an army of highly paid lobbyists to push for a steep hike in electricity rates, as South Florida's public utility is doing.

And you wonder why the Sunshine State is experiencing its first net emigration of people since World War II.

to all the idiots who claim people will not move because of taxes or that raising taxes is always good......

:pke:

SOME people may move because of taxes... and raising taxes is not ALWAYS a good idea. I know of no one who claimed otherwise.

fail

WHAT major parts?

Is there any reason to assume local taxes are higher than any other place in Florida?

The part about it not being a completely accurate reflection of burden on the individual is really only relevant to Alaska, because it's the only state that has enough oil reserves to do that. Some states may taxes oil rates, but it's like how we model the solar system - it's OK to leave the planets out of the equation, because they are so small compared to the sun they are irrelevant to the total gravitational system.

And if Florida had a model like Alaska, it too would show high tax rates per a capita. A model like that doesn't LOWER tax rates per capita, retard. That is completely and totally inapplicable to this situation. Are you even a human being?

give me a break.....you're now making stuff up about your own link....your link did nothing to dispel the OP....that is a fact....nice try

i've certaintly seen arguments by you where you argue against people who say people have moved because of taxes.....and i've never seen a tax a liberal didn't like....i've never read, heard any liberal ever say a tax increase was a bad idea.....

hell....sloppyhippo thinks they should be 70%...

why you keep harping on alaska is stupid....alaska is mentioned solely for an EXAMPLE.....

further, the facts remain....that people are moving from THAT location due to higher taxes....

as MM said....some will move....not all, some....he is right and thats a fact...

I am sure that there are some skinflints that don't value the non-monetary aspects of quality of life who would move anywhere to minimize their tax burden.... and if taxes were all there were to life, I might be one of those folks.

thatk God I am not. Thank God I value clean air and not much pollution....no crime to speak of, no traffic... beautiful coastlines... wonderful people... an unhurried lifestyle.... and if I have to pay a marginal amount more in taxes to live in such an environment, I think it sure as hell beats the smog of southern california, the crime rate, the traffic, the crush of humanity... and I count myself fortunate to live where I do, and don't really worry too much if my property tax rates, or state income tax rates are marginally higher than places that have all that traffic, all that smog, all that crime, all the traffic, all those smarmy judge judy wannabes...

You should move to Alabama so that you'll have a marginally lower tax rate. That's what all the cool people do.
