bias

say hi to john wayne for me.....

sans the weird cowboy talk from the maine guy....

i wouldn't move from my spot on this earth until taxes were fucking gross.....so waynefrommaine has that point....as i already conceded earlier moron....point is....some or maybe more than some...folks are not as lucky and maine and i.....to live in idyllic locals....and can't afford to....

but wayneyfrommayne is an elitist....so he wouldn't know

or the housing industry collapesed and you couldn't find a job building houses - like it did in florida, or your were part of the countless industries that were dependent on the housing industry - like there were in florida - because the housing bubble around the country burst and folks who had been planning on selling their houses and moving to florida reconsidered and decided to stay where they were until the prices regained a bit from where they previously were.

but NO...

splurt wants to say it is ALL about TAXES...in a fucking state that does not even HAVE any state income tax.

fucking loser hack.

keep studying with Judge Judy and google.... maybe someday you'll be ready to pass that saloon exam

please explain how anything I wrote above had anything to do with "cowboys". Were you drunk again when you posted that?

And there are LOTS of poor people who can afford to live in Maine... and DO. Clearly, besides being drunk, you are also talking about shit that you know nothing about.

Spread the news how bad things are here, boys! I'm sitting here, quietly amused. I have affordable insurance on my house, my taxes haven't gone up in three years(reduced by the Homestead Exemption), and next April I only have to pay income taxes to one entity, not the State. In addition, millions of tourists will be paying our sales and hotel excise taxes to add to the state coffers.
Best of all, next January I'll be out on the patio reading the newspaper about your snow drifts and sub-zero temperatures with a slight smile on my face as the sea breezes come ashore. Then I'll turn to the sports section to read about our local kid being the QB on the National Championship team for the 3rd time in 4 years. How can you beat it? Try to remember, SE Florida does not Florida make and I ain't goin nowhere!
Oh yes, please keep it a secret, it's better for me.

Let me add, for those desirous of making it a political issue. The state has had GOP Governors for the past ten years and SE Florida is dominated by GOP politicians and their deserving voters, the only Dem mentioned is the one with "probity".

Winters are nice in FL. Summers suck big time though.
I lived in Tampa for 7 years.

I also had to pay extra local sales tax to pay for the football stadium.

It's hot here too, often into the low 90s, but on the ocean side we get the sea breezes coming on shore in the afternoon, the Gulf side is warmer. In the summer we can count on a tropical rain in the afternoon(our mud puddles have no mud), then clearing and temps 20 degrees cooler and beautiful blue skies. No smog ever. I used to have a business near USF so I know Tampa well. Burn's Steak House, yum.
I made it a point not to live in a large city 30 years ago. Nothing but high school stadiums within 60 miles here. I haven't been in a traffic jam for years except when traveling. I love it up North in certain areas, Maine, Mich. N. Peninsula, North Woods of Wisconsin, but in the winter, I wouldn't trade with anybody. Where's "My shanty"?

I knew you'd run away from this... drunken pussy

Burns :D yes yummy. I miss a few of the restarurants and seeing nice ladies in bikinis in the grocery store.. But not too much else.

I live in east central KY now. I have lived in OH, PA,NC,OR,FL, and TX for a while.

We ventured out to rural Ga. for almost ten years, but ultimately, from profound lack-of-culture shock and how much BBQ, fried chicken, and biscuits and gravy is enough, so we came back to Fla. I love the friends we made there however.
As for the bikinis. there are never enough. We have a college and miles of beautiful beach here, need I say more?
Let me add Mel's, Ted Stevens, The Blue Mullet and The Columbia in Ybor City to the list, old haunts in my day. Columbia has its only branch here which, for my Cuban wife, is a touch of home style cooking nearby.
Again, to stay with the topic, things are alright here, nothing great, but OK. The ambience hasn't changed a bit. As you know, Fla was never a manufacturing hub, but if tourism and construction suffer, we do also like anybody else. I suspect the "exodus" in the article is less by reason of taxes than by tradesman looking for work wherever they can find it. Not many in the category can last very long without work and if they weren't homeowners, they packed up the family and either went looking for work elsewhere or to join family back home to ride out hard times. How many Snowbirds can resettle here if they can't get a decent price for their home up north? If they own a home, they can't very well leave until they find a buyer. I know of no one around me talking of leaving for any reason, and among single family homes, not much is for sale. We have height restrictions here(Libertarians take note) so condominium overdevelopment isn't a problem. It seems like the homes that are for sale come back on the market, but even then, not so frequently.

Most of the people I worked with in FL went back to India.
And my neighborhood was full of ex New yorkers. Not an overly friendly bunch....

Here we have a more conglomerate mixture including a few Majorcan familes going back to our Spanish days. South of here it becomes somewhat more compounded. The next town 20 minutes South, has an absolutely great Italian-American Club consisting mostly of NY/NJ Refugees and loads of fun with a super fixed, you get what they're making, like home restaurant open to members and their guests.

are you gay? why are you so obsessed with me?

and i like that you are copying me on the "drunken" bit.....

how original.....

it isn't "copying" at all.

You are the one who spoke of drinking multiple margaritas... and you are the one who wrote stupid shit about "cowboys" with no basis in sober reality...

It was simply a logical conclusion.

now...care to answer the question?
