You have one? Type? Pros? Cons? Mr. Owl loves tech, especially new tech. I'm more of a mind with Damo and don't like the idea of them telling you that you can't just outright sell it, or trade it in, or them having the power to do whatever to it remotely.
I bought a Model Y (Dual Motor) last June. My previous car was 9 years old so there was a lot of technology to catch up on. There are a lot of 'gadgets' on the car that I don't use. The user interface takes time to learn, I guess like buying a new computer. You have to figure out where everything is. And there are a lot of 'voice' commands that you can give it which is cool. You really have to sit down and read the User Manual to see everything that the user interface can do. The car has a lot of software dedicated to it. But that's probably true with most 2020+ cars.
But the best thing about it is the way it handles and drives. I just took my wife's car in to the shop for annual maintenance and it's the first time I'd driven a gas car since I bought the Tesla. I'll NEVER buy another gas car. The difference is undeniable. The Tesla is so smooth and you press on the throttle and there's no hesitation. It's instant torque.
But I also like the Regenerative Braking. Tesla designed their cars to engage a flywheel when you take pressure off the accelerator which helps charge the batteries. In a gas car, that energy is in the form of heat when pressing the brakes. Wasted energy. And being able to slow down and stop your car by just releasing the accelerator and not pressing the break is something you'll savor. You rarely use the brakes. You learn to slow down the car using the accelerator. So much more fun to drive. And the performance will make you smile. The acceleration will blow you away (literally). If you know anyone who owns a Tesla, ask them to give you a ride. You'll see what I mean.
Oh and of course, there's the thing about never having to go to a gas station. You just plug it into your garage outlet when the charge gets low. I charge it up to 90% and re-charge it when it gets below 50%. Charges in about 10 hours with a 220v (dryer outlet). I've gone on two four-hour trips and had to stop once for each. Took about 20-30 minutes to charge.
Also, the Tesla is surrounded by six cameras so it's always aware of other cars and things on the road. Thus, it's always making you aware of them. Kinda annoying but it's for your own safety so you let it go. It's got a great security system they call Sentry. It videos anybody or thing that a gets close to your car when it's parked. If someone were to damage it, you'd have video evidence. I've seen articles online about Tesla owners getting vandals or thieves arrested.
Then there's the maintenance thing. There is none. No radiator fluid. No oil. No transmission fluid. You rarely use the brakes so that's low maintenance. We're just talking about an electric motor. Simple. They build the car so you can't even get access to the motors so you couldn't fix one even if you wanted to. And why would you? You'd be nuts to try. Tesla will take care of you. The mobile app has a
Request Service section where you can enter an issue. Tesla will contact you and take care of it. Tesla covers all fixes and repairs the first four years.
Bottom line: It's a great car. It's the most technologically advanced car I've ever owned. EVs are the future. Anybody who buys an EV will never buy another gas car. It's that simple.
