Ukraine follies: Nuke it up!

Taichiliberal

Shaken, not stirred!
Remember this folks, Chernobyl is in the Ukraine. I just watched a 7 year old documentary on the globally financed effort to put a protective dome over the busted reactor. Also, there are currently 15 nuke power plants there, about half have been taken off the grid since the Russian invasion. Jeez! 😟

Except that with the exception of Chernobyl the other reactors in Ukraine are all pressurized water types, not graphite moderated fast fission reactors. There is a world of difference between these types and the PWR's all have strong secondary containments that the reactors at Chernobyl lacked.

Disposal of nuke waste from ANY current nuke power plant is the SOS....and if a errant bomb breaches those containment walls were the reactor rods are, you've got serious problems.

The point I'm making is that the new containment wall of Chernobyl is NOT designed to resist bombing...I don't know if it has been completed. Couple this with the other operating plants, and it's one more thing for the EU to worry about as Putin stupidly invades a country that was no threat to him.

Also, Ukraine is a serious bread basket for portions of the globe. Potential radioactive contamination of the food supply ain't a pretty thought.

Too many Not Americans.....to include Europeans.....Understand that America is the aggressor.....that this is Americas fault.

The hate towards America through most of the world is growing by the day,

This sure ain't good.

Russia ain't exactly making new friends, either.

My OP stands, and to your point, the US should be emphasizing my OP point, as should the EU. One has to wonder why they are not.

Bullshit. Spent fuel from a PWR reactor is not that big a deal in terms of danger. On the other hand, the graphite moderator (solid carbon) is a serious problem.

But since you know less that squat, nada, nothing, zip-point-shit about things nuclear you're just another ranting alarmist who is running around like a Chicken Little.

China is everyday all around the world making the case that American Power must end, this sort of abuse can not be allowed to continue.

IMBECILE! PWR may produce less, but it STILL PRODUCES NUKE WASTE ON PAR WITH BWR PLANTS. Same disposal problems.

It never ceases to amaze me how you proudly spew forth all types jargon that contradict reality without offering a shred of proof! I mean, you're such a fucking wonk...MAGA politics, corporate welfare, nuke plants, the list is endless...and YOU are the recipient of all the bad that comes from that (S&L Scandal, tax breaks for the rich, fake wars, etc.) You're too damned stupid and proud to even cop to the truth on an anonymous format at this.

But hope springs eternal. Here stupid, learn something:

Bull Shit.

You really have no idea what is happening do ya...

WTF are you babbling about? Are you saying that this Ukraine war is good PR for Russia? What are you smoking, because I'd like some!

So? Nuclear waste is a very manageable issue. It's only retards like you and others on the radical environmental Left that think it's something out of a horror movie. Nuclear spent fuel is a low-level alpha and beta emitter, mostly alpha emitter. Stored in a cask with deaerated water that allows for cooling of the small amount of heat generated, it poses no risk whatsoever. You store it in a stable environment like Yucca Mountain and that's that.

:whoa: Your first sentence says it all! You were proven dead wrong on one statement, but you don't have the cojones to cop to that. Then you just IGNORE the validated facts and proceed to spew forth all types of ignorant bullshit that you can't factually or logically prove. Let me educate you:

- Yucca Mountain in Nevada being a nuke waste dump site ain't happening.....Obama, and even the Orange Oaf officially saw to that. One of the major reasons for that of which dumb toots like you want to ignore has to do with seismic activity (aka earthquakes ). Earthquakes shake up Yucca Mountain nuke dump talk in Nevada
https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/w...yucca-mountain-nuke-dump-talk-nevada-64314368

- all nuke plants have their active rods in pools of water which has to be periodically replaced. The permanent waste storage centers DO NOT use pools of water. Look it up.

- As it stands, Germany is wringing it's hands as to how to relocate all it's nuke waste from an old salt mine that is falling apart and filling with water. That water must NOT leak into the ground and migrate to aquafers or lakes. Look it up...again.

- There was an international investment in putting a giant cask covering over the destroyed plant in Chernobyl ... the old coverings are eroding and the radiation levels inside are STILL lethal. I don't know if the project was completed before the war/invasion started. I hope so.

So, having buried (pun intended) your nuke wonk tirade, the OP regarding my fears of ANY of the Ukraine's nuke power plants being damaged during this war remains. I still wonder why this isn't part of the top coverage by our MSM or the BBC affiliate here. Carry on.

Oh I have the cojones to reply to that. In fact, I stand by it. Your drivel that follows is devoid of facts. The article you link to is utter bullshit promulgated by an empty-headed journalist who knows nothing about things nuclear.

An earthquake hundreds of miles away, even a catastrophic one of say 9 on the Richter scale would do NOTHING to the stored fuel. The storage casks have been thoroughly tested to insane standards and survived as the video demonstrates.

Your commentary on Germany is likely derived from some radical Leftist environmental site that simply lies its ass off.

https://www.dw.com/en/germany-launc...manent-nuclear-waste-disposal-site/a-55077967
https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/... yet undetermined site for h igh-level waste.

Chernobyl is the result of a totalitarian government with no accountability building a dangerous nuclear reactor design then operating it in an unsafe manner. It is not indicative of anything done with commercial nuclear anywhere else in the world.

So, you illiterate--in the sense you know nothing about nuclear power whatsoever--commentary is baseless and meaningless.

Your arrogant ignorance knows no bounds!

Your first link supports my previous post, dimwit! The closing of a nuke waste dump site due to it's deteriorating situation...something the protestors warned about over 20 years ago! Looking for a new site isn't a walk in the park...assessing damage to the containers and such. Apropos to that: https://bellona.org/news/nuclear-is...k-scandal-engulfs-country-and-disturbs-europe

Your second link is nothing more than a PR piece from the nuke industry ... that's the affiliation of the site, don't cha know. If obviously overlooks what has transpired in Germany since 2019, and like you tries to white wash the whole thing.

As for Chernobyl, WTF are you rambling about? The POINT, you nit, is the problem that exists NOW. From what I've read, the dome is complete and Chernobyl is held by the Russians. Let's hope it stays secure.....I can only hope the other 15 nuke plants (powered down or not) are off limits to both warring parties.

https://www.reuters.com/world/europ...russian-forces-ukrainian-official-2022-02-24/

So, your wonkish sidebar non-withstanding, the OP stands. Let's hope all things go well in this respect.
