Kiev remains unbowed

They didn't generously halt the advance on Kiev to offer negotiations.

The Russian offensive against Kiev was defeated, driven back, and the Russian forces had to beat a retreat back to Belarus.

Leaving behind piles of dead bodies, and broken-spirited survivors. :(

So you have belatedly decided Putin purposefully lost the Battle of Kyiv as part of a brilliant broader military strategy.

Nothing ' belated ' about it. I said at the time of the ' stalled ' armored column that the Russians were in talks with the Ukrainian army and were providing time for civilians to evacuate Kiev. In the end they decided not to flatten Kiev. Now the armor is moving back to attack the Ukrainians in the Donbas.
Certainly the Russians took casualties at Kiev- but so did the Ukrainians. You have no factual statistics on the casualties of either side- but you want to call it a Russian defeat. That's the trouble with one-sided propaganda.
We don't know that the Russians will be satisfied with taking all of Donetsk, Lugansk and sealing off Ukraine's access to the coast. If Zelensky- or whoever is in charge when the Neo-Nazis have their say- doesn't call it a day at that point then maybe the Russians will go back to Kiev and make a job of it.
Who knows ? One thing for sure- the western propaganda machinery has a very big mouth.

Sounds like a lot of contorted special pleading to me, moon.

Hmm, a masterstoke of strategy.

Why the **** are you so keen to see the Russians win? Do you hate 'the west' that much?

If it was strategy that led to the Ukrainians massing to protect Kiev while the Russians consolidated the Donbas then yes, it was good strategy.
All this armchair jibber-jabber is pointless. We'll see the outcome of the battles for the east and south soon enough. Meanwhile, let the propaganda bugles blow themselves inside-out.

Today, Ukraine has held off a world military superpower for 150 days.

In 2016, Vlad Putin openly bragged he could conquer Ukraine in less than two weeks.

The Russians have chosen, sensibly, not to destroy Ukraine entirely. So far they are occupying 20% of it , mainly populated by pro-Russians.

Putin: clever as a fox

Moon's world:

"But Putin expected and planned all along to get bogged down in a six month quagmire and have Russian forces lose 30 percent of their military capabilities!"

Nope.

Putin would have loved and been overjoyed to capture Kyiv and decapitate the Ukraine government in the first 48 hours, which was his original plan and expectation.

You Putin mind-readers are quite comical.
