Kids Have A Way of Embarrassing Their Presidential Fathers

Hello cawacko,

Comparing Fox News and the Washington Post isn't really apples to apples. Fox News, like CNN & MSNBC, exist to get the best ratings possible by feeding red meat to their base.

Historically The Washington Post and New York Times, while yes wanting to get the most revenue possible, have had more liberal Op-Ed pages but the news they delivered was looked upon by Americans as mostly being straight forward and generally speaking trustworthy. They were our top two papers of record so to speak. (Maybe the WSJ is in there somewhere the NYT and WaPo seemed to be the top 2.)

That went out the window during the Trump years. There's no denying it was good for their business. The NYT especially had an exceptional increase in readers I believe. But they basically positioned themselves as the leaders of the resistance. And when we discuss why there is a lack of trust in our media this is the leading example.

So they have a lot of work to do to regain the trust of people beyond one article here.

That's ridiculous. They were printing the truth. The reason it was regularly critical of Trump is because he has done so much wrong!

It would not be possible to print the pertinent news without including the latest stories of Trump's misdeeds - because they were constant.

And they still are. So numerous are they that more are uncovered on a regular basis. Such as this 7 hour gap. (If I might descend into a bit of whataboutism...)

And then Trump stupidly claims he doesn't even know what a burner phone is. So glad to hear John Bolton speak up right away to let everyone know that was BS, that he and Trump had talked about them previously. And it has come to the attention of the Select Committee that phone calls were made during the 7 hour gap, which were not logged as required. That is a violation of the law, right there.

WAPO LOL

Show us some similar articles from your beloved RW sources that discuss how the Toadstool Clan profited from #TRE45ON's presidency. We'll wait.

And wait.

And wait.

And wait.

You're missing the point. The point is not that the NY Times shouldn't publish things critical of Trump. Rather the NY Times went from strictly a reporter of the news to a move activist/adversarial role with Trump. And as stated once you take that role you lose even the veneer of being a fair arbiter for people to turn too. And now we have a large segment of the population that understandably trusts little the mainstream media puts out. Long gone are the days of Walter Cronkite or even the CNN "Most Trusted Name in News" of my youth.

You have to step back and see the big picture. It's far bigger than Trump.

Hello cawacko,

You're arguments are quite consistent. And overlook crucial points, once again. Please allow me to fill in what's overlooked...

You're missing the point. The point is not that the NY Times shouldn't publish things critical of Trump.

Why on Earth should an institution whose very business is to inform the public of things they should know avoid fulfilling their task just because it's about Trump? How utterly absurd. Any president or former president should expect to be constantly scrutinized by the media. It goes with the job. Trump has no right of special exemption from this.

Rather the NY Times went from strictly a reporter of the news to a move activist/adversarial role with Trump. And as stated once you take that role you lose even the veneer of being a fair arbiter for people to turn too.

A fair arbiter of the truth would not withhold crucially important information about a president or former president who is involved in something of public interest.

And now we have a large segment of the population that understandably trusts little the mainstream media puts out.

The reason the public distrusts institutions is because Republican talking heads have been appealing to the misinformed simplistic minds that wish to believe such drastically oversimplified nonsense such as: "Government is the problem."

Long gone are the days of Walter Cronkite or even the CNN "Most Trusted Name in News" of my youth.

The real turning point there was something known as the Powell Memo. That was when corporations became organized in their attempts to control their public image, among other powers seized. Up until then, most of the public had a lot of confidence in government. After the Powell Memo, all of a sudden, government was something to be distrusted. The corporations were there to help you with every little thing you need for your modern life. Even if to defend you (or misinform you about the degree of it) against the 'evil government.'

You have to step back and see the big picture. It's far bigger than Trump.

Does stepping back to the point of the Powell Memo go back far enough to really see the big picture?

"Powell Memorandum, 1971

On August 23, 1971, prior to accepting Nixon's nomination to the Supreme Court, Powell was commissioned by his neighbor, Eugene B. Sydnor Jr., a close friend and education director of the US Chamber of Commerce, to write a confidential memorandum for the chamber entitled "Attack on the American Free Enterprise System," an anti-Communist and anti-New Deal blueprint for conservative business interests to retake America.[14][15] It was based in part on Powell's reaction to the work of activist Ralph Nader, whose 1965 exposé on General Motors, Unsafe at Any Speed, put a focus on the auto industry putting profit ahead of safety, which triggered the American consumer movement. Powell saw it as an undermining of the power of private business and a step towards socialism.[14] His experiences as a corporate lawyer and a director on the board of Phillip Morris from 1964 until his appointment to the Supreme Court made him a champion of the tobacco industry who railed against the growing scientific evidence linking smoking to cancer deaths.[14] He argued, unsuccessfully, that tobacco companies' First Amendment rights were being infringed when news organizations were not giving credence to the cancer denials of the industry.[14]

The memo called for corporate America to become more aggressive in molding society's thinking about business, government, politics and law in the US. It inspired wealthy heirs of earlier American industrialists, the Earhart Foundation (whose money came from an oil fortune), and the Smith Richardson Foundation (from the cough medicine dynasty)[14] to use their private charitable foundations−which did not have to report their political activities−to join the Carthage Foundation, founded by Richard Mellon Scaife in 1964.[14] The Carthage Foundation pursued Powell's vision of a pro-business, anti-socialist, minimally government-regulated America based on what he thought America had been in the heyday of early American industrialism, before the Great Depression and the rise of Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal.

The Powell Memorandum thus became the blueprint for the rise of the American conservative movement and the formation of a network of influential right-wing think tanks and lobbying organizations, such as The Heritage Foundation and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), and inspired the US Chamber of Commerce to become far more politically active.[16][17] CUNY professor David Harvey traces the rise of neoliberalism in the US to this memo.[18][19] "

I get shady vibes from Hunter and won’t be surprised if he’s indicted, but I’ve never thought of Joe as shady or corrupt.

Thank you,... I do appreciate the honesty from you instead of the non stop incessant partisan bullshit that goes on here all the time from both sides. Its ridiculous. Well done. I do disagree with you somewhat on Joe, but thats a whole other matter. I just liked that you were willing to at least admit SOMETHING unlike so many others around here.

Hunter is weak, its easy to see. He wont take the fall alone for the old man and his uncle. No way. He will fold like a cheap suit. If I were him I would stay off of any planes or dark alleys....LOL Not that I think Joe would sign on to hitting him, I dont. But Joe's handlers, the REAL powers behind the the Big Chair? Hell yeah,...in a second.

Real journalism happens at The Washington Post. Posting this not because I like it. Not in a million years would FOX do an investigation and expose of Trump junior.

From the article:

"While many aspects of Hunter Biden’s financial arrangement with CEFC China Energy have been previously reported and were included in a Republican-led Senate report from 2020, a Washington Post review confirmed many of the key details and found additional documents showing Biden family interactions with Chinese executives.

Over the course of 14 months, the Chinese energy conglomerate and its executives paid $4.8 million to entities controlled by Hunter Biden and his uncle, according to government records, court documents and newly disclosed bank statements, as well as emails contained on a copy of a laptop hard drive that purportedly once belonged to Hunter Biden.

The Post did not find evidence that Joe Biden personally benefited from or knew details about the transactions with CEFC, which took place after he had left the vice presidency and before he announced his intentions to run for the White House in 2020.

But the new documents — which include a signed copy of a $1 million legal retainer, emails related to the wire transfers, and $3.8 million in consulting fees that are confirmed in new bank records and agreements signed by Hunter Biden — illustrate the ways in which his family profited from relationships built over Joe Biden’s decades in public service."

SORRY DIPSHIT; you don't get to make the Biden family corruption about the Trumps , or FOXNEWS.

Laughing, the one thing fools can do.

SAYS THE FOOL WHO HAS GOBBLED UP EVERY LIE HE HAS BEEN SPOONFED BY THE FAKE NEWS ,SUCH AS THE WAPO ,INCLUDING THE RUSSIA LIES (for three+ years), AS WELL AS THE HUNTER BIDEN COVERUP..

Can you provide an example of false reporting, never mind the columns and editorials. Obviously FOX isn't "apples to apples". It only pretends to practice journalism.

YET THEY WERE THE ONLY ONES TELING THE TRUTH ABOUT THE BIDENS, WHILE THE WAPO WAS STILL LYING ABOUT IT.

Biased reporting is false reporting. It's not a failure of journalism if accurate reporting paints a critical picture of its subject. Quite the opposite, unless you can cite newsworthy stories harmful to Biden that The Times ignored.

YES, ALL THE LIES ABOUT "RUSSIAN DISINFORMATION" FROM THE WAPO, AND EVERY OTHER LYINGASS FAKE NEWS SOURCE , WAS/IS "FALSE REPORTING".

WE KNOW...ONLY FOXNEWS and NEWSMAX TOLD THE TRUTH.
