Long distance road trips and EVs

Fleets? Sure. But that's a limited use really. Even those would have limits depending on how many hours they were expected to run per day.
Garages can put solar panels on the roof. Same for taxis and bus garages. Working out the kinks for high use vehicles might be an initial challenge, but the benefits are worth the work. The noxious fume reduction alone would pay dividends.

If there is a will to accomplish it, there is a way. Every application that can be used successfully, should be.

Rooftop solar is insufficient for dense urban areas with high rise buildings because of shadowing.

The other issue is the rooftop won't generally have sufficient area to generate the sort of power necessary to charge a large number of vehicles, particularly in a multi-story garage. Solar is not the solution.

saw a video where they did actual tests with a Tesla with various load scenarios. Just a bike rack (with bikes) made a pretty dramatic difference. Not as much as running the heater but a lot.

I see they are moving to using heat pumps for heat and cool but that still wont help in cold environments.

They can make sense for some climates and purposes but its limited.

What sources do you seek out? The pulling capacity of electric cars is very high. Are you suggesting they can not move if they have 2 passengers? My electric, and my sons Bolt work very well and we are in Michigan.
MythBusters automotive got the exact same usage in and electric with the air conditioning on or off.
The difference is I have real-life experience in having an EV. Like I said, Volt had the highest customer satisfaction levels of any car. https://www.ford.com/powertrains/battery-electric-vehicles/

You can find excuses not to do something, or you can find ways to take advantage of every form of energy. Even if it's supplemental. Charging large banks of batteries to be used for charging ports later, is an excellent way to aid in the charging process.

I want what works. EV's are not some panacea. Sure, they and vehicles running on hydraulics can be useful in some settings, but they aren't for everyone. The problem with EV's is where to get the electricity. The answer to that, as to the whole "Green" issue on electrical power is to abandon solar and wind and go to nuclear with natural gas as a backup for peaking loads.

That works, and would work wonderfully at a tiny fraction of the cost of sunshine and whirligigs. But the Left hates nuclear with a passion that goes to massively lying about it.

See that picture? That is often repeated on Leftist Green sites like this one

https://towardfreedom.org/story/admin/fukushima-at-ten-aftershocks-lies-and-failed-decontamination/

As being at the Fukushima nuclear plant. That is a completely unrelated chemical fire at a plant nowhere near Fukushima. It is an blatant, outright, lie! Yet, the radical Leftist Greentards still put it up as being the Fukushima nuclear plant even after being discredited. Nuclear is safe, clean, and would solve the CO2 problem at a tiny fraction of the cost of solar and wind.

The moron is lying. Hybrids get about 50 mpg under the right conditions.

Quite an insult. My cars computer tells me how much MPG I get from electric and gas. It is generally in the 100 range. Why would I not tell the truth? You make no sense.

no i was talking battery drain. load causes increased drain.

Hybrids will work. They are electric for short term daily driving and ICE for trips.

Well what do you know? My guess was spot on!

What hybrid car has the longest range?

what a quaint imagination you have ! the whole point of this thread is that they cant be taken on the highway.

Well yeah, long distance trips on highways to be specific. So why complain about people buying EVs?

Nordberg's suggestion was spot on. Best of both worlds.

Whereas when I'm driving something like my 1973 Lotus Europa, or my 2001 Nissan Frontier (mostly my son's ride these days) I figure out that shit in my head without some useless onboard computer. I'd don't need a "smart" car for any fucking thing!
