Will Russia have to surrender to Ukraine?

Do you suspect that they'll attempt to assassinate the Ukrainians during the meeting?

Keeping the occupying force supplied is an issue as well.

Your right, an occupation of a hostile country will be expensive.

I was thinking yesterday that Ukraine should only send low level delegates to Duplicitous Vlad's negotiations. I wouldn't trust Vlad to ensure Zelensky's safety.

Exactly. Z. can negotiate via Zoom.

Russia's economy is in fairly poor shape in part due to the pandemic, like everyone else's. This invasion appears to be poised to bankrupt them and for what? Even if they absorb Ukraine back into Mother Russia, they will *still* have NATO countries on their borders. Angry, hostile NATO countries.

Good points.
The situation can always change, but we are seeing vestiges of a strategic blunder by Putin.

How many agree with Trump about Putin's genius?

I think Trump was wrong that his buddy Vlad had "peacekeeping" on his mind, and that the US armed forces had landed an amphibious expeditionary force on the shores of Ukraine.

It makes little sense. After all, he's had two very good examples of how to *really* do an invasion and do it right, in the last 20 years -- when we went into Afghanistan, and then into Iraq. </sarcasm>

Some people I correspond with in Russia see his Ukraine invasion as utterly irrational.

In contrast to the MAGA contingent ( Stone, Moon, Hawkeye10, etc.) who in late February were giggling that Kyiv was doomed and that Russia was on the verge of completely overrunning and dominating Ukraine, this here turned out to be in contrast a sober and prescient analysis.

This is a synopsis from Sir Lawrence Freedman, professor of war studies, Kings College, London:

(I am going to have to paraphrase him)

Russia has a formidable army, but it hasn't been deployed very effectively, and they've underestimated the resistance they would face.

> This is partly due to hubris and arrogance of Russian political leadership ( not necessarily the field commanders)

Russia had plenty of time to plan a blitz offensive, where their major objectives would be met in 24 to 36 hours.

> But at this time, Russia has lost the initiative, and does not hold one single major Ukrainian city.

Ukraine will be a difficult country to occupy; it is the size of France and has 40 million people.

Even if the Ukranian Army is seriously degraded, an insurgency can be maintained, because Ukraine has a long, porous western border with European countries through which arms can be provisioned

Putin's offer of negotiations is a ruse. No commander agrees to a ceasefire until their soldiers are in optimum positions. Russian troops are bogged down and do not hold any major cities yet.

Russia is getting its ass kicked. The Ukraine army chased them all the way back into Russia they had to blow the bridges to protect themselves.

Would they be the same bridges that the Zelenskys are blowing up now to try to stop the Russians advancing ?

You have the military acumen of the Tibetan air-force.

Haw, haw...................................haw.

Ukraine troops blow up bridge in Luhansk region

Ukraine's National Guard have released a video which it said shows the destruction of a bridge connecting Severodonetsk to Rubizhne in the Luhansk region.

The special operation between Ukraine's security forces aims to slow down the advance of Russian troops in the area.
