China cannot produce new jet engines and warships for a long time to come

In various areas, including education, raw materials, advanced components, and intellectual property, China is believed to be dependent on the US and its allies, according to the research. According to the paper, China is reliant on the United States and its allies for five minerals required by the defence sector. According to the research, China is also reliant on Russia, Ukraine, and, France for aircraft and naval engines, which accounted for the majority of Chinese arms imports between 2015 and 2020.

The report “Assessing Systemic Strengths and Vulnerabilities of China’s Defence Industrial Base” was commissioned by the US Congress and completed in October 2021. It clearly lays bare the vulnerabilities of Beijing’s military, given it cannot produce any new jet engines and warships in the face of increasing competition with almost all world powers.

Because the defence industry is at the heart of Russia’s economic growth and foreign policy, it is carefully guarded. Yet, according to research published last year by Boston-based cybersecurity technology firm Cybereason, a threat actor suspected of acting on behalf of Chinese State-sponsored interests was discovered targeting a Russian defence contractor working on nuclear submarine designs for the Russian Navy. Not only this, many such instances have been recorded over the past many years.

According to the South China Morning Post, military analysts in China think that the Communist nation’s ambitions to arm its most advanced fighter jet with hi-tech weapons have not been able to become a reality because of its underpowered engines. You see, Chinese engineers have struggled for years to produce engines powerful enough to allow the J-20 to reach its peak performance and match the likes of the US F-22.

In such a situation, how can they think of a military-industrial complex that can be independent and confident enough to build quality tech on its own? The fact is that Beijing is at odds with all the countries it has sought for help with providing components and technological know-how. Be it Ukraine, Russia, France, and other US allies due to XI Jinping’s larger brutish foreign policy.

In the next ten years, dropping birth rates and a diminishing workforce, according to the report, might harm China’s economy and defence sector growth, with evidence that the defence industry may struggle to attract and retain educated people. All in all, losing allies, business partners and a stagnated weapons industry will make sure that China cannot produce new jet engines and warships for a long time to come.

And finally ‘dropping birth rate’ is going to impact every developed country in next decade not only China.

Chinese navy is beautiful, spacious, airy and totally harmless

PLA Navy is the largest in the world, with around 350 ships and submarines. Yet, no one fears it and despite being accorded special “shooting powers” earlier this year, the Chinese warships and coastguard vessels seem quite harmless. In fact, they get routinely chased away by smaller navies like Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam and India. Similarly, France, the US, the UK and Australia too don’t feel intimidated while entering China’s backyard and carrying out freedom of navigation exercises.

Take the case of Taiwan. It is a tiny nation separated from China by a narrow Strait. Yet, Taiwan doesn’t really get bothered by Chinese warships. On Saturday, the Taiwanese Coast Guard Administration’s (CGA) Eastern branch claimed that it had chased away two large Chinese fishing boats near Taiwan’s Orchid Island.

On June 28, a CGA patrol boat had seized a Chinese fishing vessel, following its failure to stop for inspection.

The fact is that the PLA Navy is all about pomp and show. It probably satisfies the fat ego of an average CCP hardliner to claim that the PLA Navy is statistically the largest. However, the PLA Navy is mighty on paper and toothless in water. There is nothing confrontational about an average Chinese warship. All it is supposed to do is intrude into the adversary’s water and get chased away without inflicting any harm.

For example, China is building its third aircraft carrier called type 003, expected to be launched this year. It is billed to be the largest ship in the Chinese Navy fleet. We don’t doubt that China will be able to build it in time, but the catch is China doesn’t have any fighter jets to equip its gigantic 003 carrier with. So, the Chinese Navy will be practically operating a gun without any bullets.

So, don’t be surprised when you read that Vietnam chased away vessels with Chinese flags, or that Vietnam has created a huge fleet of fishing boat militia, which can dominate the Chinese vessels. Similarly, Japan frequently chases away Chinese vessels that infiltrate into the Japanese waters near the Senkaku Islands.

In fact, China is really intimidated by the Japanese vessels. In order to find an excuse, China claimed that it was “exercising self-restraint” in using weapons and chasing away Japanese vessels. Well, this is all that the largest Navy in the world can do- exercise self-restraint and avoid confrontation.

In the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) too, the Indian Navy tracked a Chinese “research vessel” last year. In December 2019, a Chinese naval ship was forced to retreat from India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Andaman Sea.

The PLA Navy is simply incompetent to confront its rivals. China keeps making boastful remarks warning other powers against entering the South China Sea. But when the UK’s flagship aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth entered the South China Sea despite prior warnings by Beijing, the PLA Navy literally couldn’t do anything. It exposed the cowardice and incompetence of the Chinese Navy.

In fact, Germany, India, Japan, Australia, UK and the US are set to conduct a massive military exercise in the South China Sea in a show of strength against Beijing. In fact, the Indian Navy too will deploy four warships in the South China Sea for 2 months. And quite clearly, China won’t be able to do anything about it, though a few Chinese State-run media houses might write a few bellicose reports about the massive military exercise.

Presently, Beijing has asked Berlin to clarify its warship’s intentions in the South China Sea. Now, if China is really a ferocious naval force, it wouldn’t be begging its rivals to issue clarifications, nor would Beijing’s rivals dare to enter the South China Sea. The fact remains that the incompetence of the Chinese Navy is well-known to its rivals, and they are able to show their strength against China quite fearlessly.

The oversized Chinese Navy is thus becoming the largest joke in the world, instead of becoming a fearsome military power. It is beautiful, spacious and airy, and completely harmless.

The OP looks like Empire propaganda: "Dont worry about us, we are a mess".....as they continue to clean our clocks.

You always want to be underestimated, keep the enemy in a fog till it is time to strike, something that the Chinese know well.

I wouldn't buy into all that. I've seen vids of Chinese ships gunning down a line of Vietnamese infantry standing on a sandbar holding rifles with a Vulcan cannon.

Probably a small Destroyer-type ship? Maybe PT boat.

That does read like Chinese propaganda.

thanks for the details. Why can't they just steal it? (eventually)
from the little I know of US/China war games China relies on superior numbers to overcome
superior US weaponry

They don't need modern weaponry. They have viral weaponry, they killed over 3/4 million Americans (and countless foreigners) and shut down the world without firing a shot.

Bioweapons arent really useful if they kill your own population.
But China has never worried about losing some Chinese for the glory of the emperor

I wonder if they thought we would destroy our own economy with extended lockdowns past the original 15?
Probably not. we do things to ourselves most of the time without additional China malign

That's what they have been doing for decades, however the West has finally wised up and is much more careful about accepting Chinese money and scientists especially in universities.

Sure, the Chinese don't have any aircraft that can operate from their carriers, existing or future ones...

China killed their Dr.s when they covered their virus up in the beginning. The Dr. who discovered how easily it was transmitted died of it shortly after he got it. A woman Dr. disappeared and has never been heard from again. They don't care how many of their own people die, or how many others die.

I'd say they are pleased Biden was elected. A weakling who will kiss their ass and make a mockery of the U.S.
The lockdowns have made us lazy. There are help wanted signs at nearly every business around here, and increased
wages and sign on bonuses haven't helped fill those positions. Many restaurants and small businesses have closed
China knows what they are doing. They are making a generation of sit-at-home-on-your-computer kids.
You are right, we are doing it to ourselves, but we've had some help along the way.

They look like J11s, which are long in the tooth, and essentially just variants of the Sukhoi 27. I would also suggest that you read the article carefully, it was referring to their newest carrier which does not use ski ramps like that one in the photos.

I suggest you look closely at that second photo. That is a catapult launch with barrier recovery just like on US carriers. The ski ramp is just being conservative on the Chinese part.

Which has little to do with the fact that their latest carrier type 003 has no fighter planes or indeed a ski jump. They are going to CATOBAR only, either powered by steam or electromagnetic rail.
