Top American Commander in Afghanistan: Taliban Winning

Ahhh look he knows so little. I own a MN with a scope and a modified bolt handle so that I fire it with the scope. It is accurate as a sniper rifle to 800 meters. It has tremendous knockdown power and kills with great effectiveness.

The effectiveness of most firearms is due more to the shooter than the gun itself.

For proof of this look at the story of Billy Dixon. He used an iron sighted .50 cal buffalo rifle to shoot an indian off his horse at just over 1,000 yards. (a surveyor measured it at 1,028 yards)

Or check out Jerry Miculek's shooting with a revolver. At a close range speed shooting match (using an 8 shot revolver) he fired 8 shots into 4 targets in 1.06 seconds, and then fired 6 shots, reloaded, and fired 6 more into a target in 2.99 seconds.

... :0)

This from you, who knows nothing .. not even how to read.

My point wasn't that the weapon couldn't kill people dummy. All guns can accomplish that.

My point was that we have much better weapons. Care to argue that we don't?

My point was that the MN has been around since the beginning of time and it has many problems .. like sticking bolts. If you care to argue that it doesn't, go talk to these guys ...
Sticking Bolt Problem

Additionally it's loud as hell and the recoil is a bitch.

Additionally ..

The Mosin safety simply is not worth a damn. It consists merely of a knob at the back of the bolt, which you are supposed to pull back and turn to one side to lock the firing pin, reversing the process to release it. Not only is this inherently clumsy and slow, it's also extremely difficult; you have to have a grip like King Kong to operate the God-damned thing at all.

And it's dangerous; and not just because your fingers might slip. I found out the hard way: the safety knob must be grasped with the thumb and fingertips, like this:

Because if you grasp it the natural way, like this -

- you run the risk of nerve damage to your forefinger. This happened to me, about the fourth or fifth time I tried to operate the Mosin safety; the pain was excruciating as the nerve was crushed - and then it quit hurting, and now, a year later, that part of my right forefinger still has no feeling.

Oh thank you so much mr knowledge .. you sure know everything.

You can try and set the 7.62x54 up for a 1300 yard range, but you sre stretching it passed its usefulness by about at least twice.

Sight it in at 200 or 250 yards and you will have a good setup.

It would still be kewl being able to hit something at 3/4 of a mile.

Very cool. But you better be ready to shoot a lotta rounds to getto that level.

But hell, shooting is as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.

E-Bay had a real nice folding triped that will fit the 7.62x54.
Didn't require any drilling or anything, plus it was small enough that it didn't interfer with anything else.
