the power to tax

I understand that you like your area where you live now and think that government provides more for less than when compared to your previous residence in NY. Congratulations. I am glad for you that you have found a nice place to live and one where your dollar goes further. I am merely saying that, there can be things of such high intrinsic value that they overshadow and outweigh the less extrinsic value that an inefficient wasteful local government might provide.
What possible thing of intrinsic value could an inefficient government provide that an efficient government couldn't?

nothing. and I never even implied that it could.

there are many things of great intrinsic value concerning a location and a residence that are not provided by government.

You're circling the drain with your argument. You must be drunk.

obviously, you have a tough time with the english language and now resort to insults.

Let me see if I can dumb it down for ya:

some places have high tax rates
some places have low tax rates.
some places with high tax rates do not deliver very many services for the money they collect in taxes
some places with low tax rates deliver a fairly impressive amount of services with the less money that they collect in taxes
if that were the only criteria for me to select a place to live, I would select a place with low taxes and great services.
in my case, there are many many many many other factors about where I live that are WAY more important to me than the tax rate.
in my case, those other factors which provide a great deal of intrinsic value completely outweigh any negative feelings I might have about marginal changes in the mill rate.

is that clear enough? of do I have to get down to "My Weekly Reader" level?

So what do you pay in taxes for the right to live in that dump?

why would you want to know or even care? what does MY property tax bill have to do with ANYTHING?

you are very creepy
Insults will not engender civil debate.

I'm simply curious on what they are charging up there in your lovely City. What's the tax rate? 3%?

none of your business.

and what you pay in property taxes for that lovely nouveau colonial you live in with those oh so tasteful hansel and gretel shutters is none of MY business.

and for you to ask me questions about my home after you have stalked me on the internet IS creepy. that was not meant as an insult...it was a factual statement.

How do you know what type of house I live in, and what type of shutters. Now that's creepy. *shrug*

you posted pictures of your own home...proudly, I might add, and rightfully so...it really was stunningly attractive....in a nouveau colonial, hansel and gretel sort of way, that is.

You remembered that? How creepy.

I wouldn't call it "nouveau", since it is a classic Southern Colonial. The architect carried the symmetrical theme throughout the house, into the parlor, the den, the kitchen, and the master bedroom suite. The shutters, by the way, are rough sawn cedar board and batten- a "one-up" on the current new builder trend in the valley.

Ahh, yes, here it is:

like I said... quite a lovely home.... nicely landscaped... a skunk- colored pet on the walkway.... and those cute shutters.... I can imagine hansel and gretel wanting to walk right up and taste it. It made quite an impression on me...of COURSE I remembered it.

That's not a "skunk colored pet", but my dreaded feral "watch cat". I think that you are confusing Olde German architecture with American Colonial...

perhaps you are right...and that would make the hansel and gretel shutters even that more appropriate.

and your feral watch cat has skunk-like coloring. I suppose that makes the cat scary in more than one way.
