Anybody in SoCal think offshore drilling is a Good Idea?

You wanted a SoCal answer:

No man, the bits'll chew all the seaweed up, bro. Then we'll have no snacks, NO SNACKS! And that's unacceptable.

What is there to eat besides seaweed, tofu, and bean sprouts, man? I know, right? Nothin'!

Black, gooey, crap at your front door. It's fucked up, man.

"At your door", huh?

Can people even own beachfront property in CA anymore?

PS: CA beaches suck ass. All of them. The best CA beach is way worse than the worst FL beach.

The guy on the Tube said the Pipeline had been dragged 100 feet from it's original location and that there was a 13 inch gash in it.

Nobody felt any resistance or anything? Mebbe somebody like ship/barge driver drinky drinky on yob.

Please tell that to all your friends. Every asshole on the Planet seems to end up here in the SummerTime.

I learned my lesson the 1st time. Fuck That. Ankle-breaking rocks, jagged rocks, super-cold water to where you gotta wear a wetsuit.

Fuckkk that!

All my friends know where the good beaches are already. :D

And we all agree on which ones are the best to worst.

I've been to a lot of beaches, in other countries even, and nothing compares to a spot not far away that I'm not going to name.

If you want to know, you gotta hang out and drink some beers with the fellers and then you might find out.

It's beautiful, and I'll be damned if I'll say it on the internet.

When a ship anchors, the current/tide will 'swing' the ship. So, maybe the ship anchored, ... 'swung', ... then when they weighed anchor, drug the Pipeline?

:) The Pacific IS COLD. That's why there is a nice clean sandy Beach to lay on.
Yes. There are many Beaches. Most people like the ones with the sand on them.

I called it:

But this week, officials said they may have miscalculated when initially estimating the scope of the spill. According to CBS Los Angeles, U.S. Coast Guard captain Rebecca Ore said there was "speculation of about 30,000 gallons" — far less than the initial estimate of 126,000 gallons. The numbers have not yet been confirmed.

The "experts" have no idea where the oil came from, which ramps up the likelihood that this was Eco-Terrorism. Seems like they should be able to run tests on the oil in the water to see if it is likely the same oil that is being pumped in the area, because we cant assume that.

Maybe some ship pumped their Bilges too close to shore and all the goo ended up on the Beach?
(I'm still going with the 'Broken pipe' theory)

Sounds like the only crack in the pipe they have found has been there for a long time. More likely a ship had a fuel spill (yes our "experts" are bad enough now to not bother to check to see if this is bunker fuel), or Eco-Terrorists dumped it.

The fact that the experts were so wrong for so long about how much oil is in the water is of course not a good sign....they still dont know....they are still guessing.

Didn't the oil stop when the Company turned off the pipeline?

The oil would have stopped if it was dumped accidently from a ship or by Eco Terrorists as well.

Remember too that the company was so sure that the oil was not from them that it took them a very long time to decide to shut down operations after the oil was spotted.

Yes. The only reason so much actually spilled was the crack in the pipe was so small the leak detection systems in use couldn't detect the small amount that was leaking out. The operators only became aware when the spill visually showed up on the surface.

We need an expert to tell us if this crack could have produced that much oil, and how old it is.

We also should test the oil, see what it is.

Your 'Eco Terrorists' theory is doubtful.

Sounds plausible to me. I guess they could turn the Pipeline back on and see where the oil is coming from easy enough.
