Sotomayor says she's "uniquely American"

she's a horrible pick, but the kind that "the Obama" wants..
and the yellow bellied Republicans are just going to roll over again..

sure La Raza is a Hispanic Naacp..that's a real doozie...
I don't give a shit if she is polka dotted and is alien American, she is a horrible pick...

calling people a racist day in and day out, it's going to lose the affect, actually it already has..it's become a real yawner already..

La Raza is the hispanic NAACP. Maybe you don't consider hispanics American, but that's just because you're a racist.

make that a 'given.' How does that make her more 'uniquely American' than someone with an English, German, French, or African ethnic background?

Sotomayor says she's "uniquely American"

Judge Sonia Sotomayor's opening argument in her confirmation hearing today rephrases "wise Latina" to a "uniquely American" journey. Her philosophy: Fidelity to the Law.

yet doesn't she still belong to la raza? how is that uniquely american or impartial? if she still belongs....

How is that any different from people joining the Italian Sons & Daughters of America, or the Ancient Order of Hibernians, or Germania lodges, for example? Thurgood Marshall was a lawyer in the NAACP.

Mostly it's about cultural identity and pride.

Did she say she was "more uniquely American than someone with an English, German, French of African ethnic background" or are you just making shit up?

The biggest threat, in my opinion, posed by La Raza is their support and lobbying for virtual open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens.

MEChA (Por La Raza todo, Fuera de La Raza nada), on the other hand, is a radical racist group worthy of scrutiny and disdain. Sadly, I believe there is a decent amount of membership crossover within the two groups.

she was responding to Watermarks post..what the hell???

I'm not quite following you.

She was responding to H20s post by making some shit up about Sotomayor claiming to be "more uniquely American . . ." which has nothing to do with what H20 wrote.

what does la raza mean?

and for the idiots out there comparing it to the NAACP....wrong....la raza advocates illegal activities...and is about 'THE RACE'

comparing la raza to naacp is ludicrous

Sotomayor said in the article she was "uniquely American"..H2o is the one who brought up her being Hispanic and called us all a racist for opposing her.. ..
I understood what Annie was saying...Aren't we all "uniquely AMERICANS"?

I think every single republican senator should vote against her.

And I think they should attack her for being a radical latina woman.

La Raza is a radical and racist organization. They want free health care for illegals and they have said that Latino children need health care more than whites and we don't need to spend money on the elderly, because they are going to die anyway.

La raza is a generic term. If you're talking about The National Council of La Raza, it's a non-profit advocacy group. If you're talking about La Raza Unida, it's a political party formed around ethnic lines.

Where's the info about advocating illegal activities? Do you mean MEChA? There are distinctions among the groups.

we've been through this before, go look up national council of THE RACE and illegal immigration...go look up who they support

Yes, we are all uniquely Americans but our life stories aren't necessarily uniquely American. I mean, a white guy born to privilege makes his way in the world and becomes successful happens in America, Iceland, Ireland, England, Sweden, Norway, Finland . . . It's not a uniquely American.

A Latina girl born into poverty in Puerto Rico moves to the Bronx, attends Princeton, graduates summa, attends Yale Law School, becomes editor of law review, becomes district court judge, becomes appellate court judge, nominated to Supreme Court is uniquely American. Perhaps you know of other countries where that is commonplace. I don't.

By the way, her statement wasn't about you. It wasn't about Annie or any of you other hyper-sensitive shitheads that have a perpetual victim complex. It was about Sotomayor and her life. Whether you like her or not, her story should be celebrated. And It is uniquely American.
