Regardless, this is just a fuck up and not a major one at that. Everyone wanted out of Afghanistan since there was nothing to be gained.

The fuck up was the White House seeing what they wanted to see by underestimating the Afghan government's ability to stand by itself. Biden and his cabinet would have listened to the SecState and SecDef give their recommendations after everyone listened to the reports of commanders on the ground, the CIA, Embassy officials, contractors, etc. then Biden would make the decision.

Usually when a fiasco like this happens, the President praises all involved, claims to accept responsibility then his henchmen start publicly blaming the military or intelligence services for dropping the ball.

The major problem was not Biden "not" taking the advice of generals, commanders on the ground, the CIA, or anyone in particular. And I'll tell you why- BECAUSE not any two of them agreed on how to do it, or what the consequences would be anyway.

The problem was Trump made deals with the Taliban that Biden had to deal with. The Taliban was already upset that the US didn't already pullout by the June 1st 2021 deadline that Trump set up with the Taliban. Biden moved the deadline up to August 31. So the Taliban's taking over the countryside was easy because they had months to plan their takeover. They had months to prepare under Trump's plan, and even more under Biden's plan.

For Trump to always say, NEVER TELL YOUR ENEMY (which is always best) what you plan to do and then turn around and tell them exactly what he planned to do was most of the problem. Biden didn't really have that choice- the cat was already out of the bag long before Biden even took office.
