Obama: Bush gave iraqis opportunity for democracy

Obama's comments don't say boo about Bush.

Personally, I could care less if Jeffersonian democracy blossoms like crocuses on the banks of the Euphrates...it still was not worth what we spent to buy it.

It is actually regrettable to read the triumphalist rhetoric Obama is using in Iraq. Reality will be more like declaring victory and going home. I don’t think anyone knows what kind of organized government or disorganized chaos will eventually result in Iraq. Certainly not the contributing pundits to this board. If it’s better than Saddam’s regime that’s good but is nothing to crow about. In any event it has hardly been worth the lives (both American & Iraqi), the treasure (the deficit which we didn’t include in the budget), and the damage to America’s standing around the world.

And I'm sure, just to be consistent, you feel the same way about Great Britain, South Korea, France, Italy, Bosnia, and other countries where the US shed blood in defense of, and the protection of allies and non allies alike....

And it was President Bush foreign policy that gave the Iraqis, in Obama's words,.... "the opportunity to stand on its own as a democratic country".....

don't forget obama said bush's iraq policy resulted in:

"That is an extraordinary achievement."

Yes, the Obama rhetoric was not too swift...we all realize that any democracy in Iraq was no more than a "collateral result" ....welcomed but not mandatory.....
The Bush goal was to dis-arm Iraq and remove Saddam, clearly and unambiguously , a clear and undeniable success....... no more guessing if he had WMD as was done for 15 years....
but this is not the point in my sarcastic response to MM's inane post....

Looks to me like he said the troops gave them the chance for democracy, not Bush. Maybe one could credit Bush indirectly but I don't think you'll convince a lot of the folks here that that is what Obama meant.

You're quite correct. The Pentagon sent them.

Bush lost. History rewrites.

so then any failures in iraq are the pentagon's fault, not bush's?

It is everyone's fault, the people, the Congress, the President, we were fooled and fooled and fooled. We will probably continue to be fooled because there are so many Americans who think that our country does no harm. Most Americans will not look at the facts that we. the USA, have sponsored terrorism.

As long as we keep things in perspective......

No matter what the outcome, the conflict in Iraq will never approach the debacle Democrats gave us in Vietnam....bad enough the US dead and wounded, but in the end we even lost the war....

Why do you keep lying?

That is most certainly not what Obama said. You either have some reading comprehension issues, or are pathological in your dishonesty.

I was against Vietnam, as well.

i keep asking you to explain how is it that the troops, without any help or direction from bush, did all that, YOU keep refusing to answer so stop your petty lying game and try actually explaining how bush haz "no" responsibility for this achievement.

do you want me to repeat my question for 3rd time? if the question does not make sense, let me know and i will rephrase....

Obama's words are the words of a commander in chief, speaking to the troops. They were well chosen, and perfectly understandable.

I explained to you, in some fairly good detail, why it makes absolutely no sense to heap praise upon Bush, for ANYTHING related to Iraq.

Obama most certainly did not say "Bush's Iraq policy resulted in an extraordinary achievement." That's so dishonest, it's hardly worth addressing. The only points you can make are based on lies & distortions, which is a very sad thing.

Obama's words.....
"You have given Iraq the opportunity to stand on its own as a democratic country. That is an extraordinary achievement

That is EXACTLY what he said.....
this "extraordinary achievement" mentioned by the Messiah is the result of Bush Iraq policy.....get over it...
As a well known Dim hack, you can spin it anyway you want....it won't change the facts.....it only confirms you are a hack...

you trying to say that bush's policy has zero affect on the extradorinary achievement is disengious....but for bush's policy, obama would not be praising those troops for bringing democracy to iraq....

are the troops at fault for starting iraq? are the troops at fault for the deaths of iraqis? are the troops at fault for anything? it doesn't matter if you think bush made mistakes about iraq, but to claim that obama's comment does not indirectly praise bush is blind partisanship.....

democracy is now brought to iraq....that is an extraordinary achievement says obama....

and bush had NOTHING to do with it....thats rich

Yep - another lie, another distortion. Par for the course.

you're such a little sissy onceler...i admit i was wrong and you call me a liar

waaah, yurt is a liar....waaaaah

When you think of Hitler, is your first thought to praise him for Germany's economic resurgence in the 30's?

I know, I know - "Oh my God...you're comparing Bush to Hitler!" I am not. I am comparing how we arrive at conclusions about leaders.

Bush rushed into a war with lies & exaggerations; millions were displaced, hundreds of thousands killed. As I have repeatedly said, it would be absolutely fantastic if the one good thing to come out of this mess - BUSH'S mess - was democracy & a better life for Iraqis.

Your tunnel vision about giving Bush "credit" for this is the only hackery I can see.
