The pledge of allegiance has a lower shelf life than it used to with these kids. Respect must be
earned. When Trump is your leader, you know you live in a royally fucked up place that needs serious fixing.

I did back in the 70's.. we had some radical teachers, but we were also grounded in true US history
where we understood the nation was not eternally defined by early slavery.

This was a decade or so after the Civil Rights Act, and we understood the USA could self correct
That notion is gone now

no i said "we were grounded" in US history
Our parents got it. they put things in perspective - sure there was some jingoism post WWII
but we really understood the USA isn't defined by slavery, as modern "history educators" would force feed kids

we fought a Civil war to end it, and passed Civil Rights legislation to further equalize any disadvantages
