Lots of the teachings attributed to Jesus make sense...and seem to be a basis for a decent personal philosophy. I attempt to incorporate them into my personal philosophy, although I miss the mark quite often.
It is still an endorsement by a person that has a lot of influence; a lot of people look to the Pope for guidance.
The right seems to cede its morality and focus to extremes much too often.
We need a reasonable conservative party to keep the left in check...to balance the adjustments reasonably, so to speak.

I disagree. The Church has not changed its view. Francis has...and is trying to sell it to the Church. I hope he succeeds.

Only since the Moral Majority began influencing the GOP in the 1980s. The "Gingrich Revolution" in the mid-90s was a direct result of the Moral Majority influence and led to increased polarization of Americans. 9/11 slowed things down for a few years, but it began again in 2008 when Obama was elected. Now we have Trump.
