I do not believe that it is a "person" at all stages of development. Also that is a philosophical question, not one of science. Only people who want to find a reason to ignore what science tells them resort to the philosophical treatise and expect all people to make decisions based on their philosophical interpretation of when the human life becomes a "person".

I believe that it is a human life at all stages of development, that does not follow that I believe it is a person at all stages, but to me that is irrelevant to the argument.

While I don't support forcing women into becoming incubators, I also do not support throwing away human life for, largely, our own selfish comfort and that we should treat these lives as patients and attempt to save them.

Personal attacks and non-sequiturs don't make up for the lack of a real argument Watermark. What I support is the killing people who have forfeited their right to live. Unlike you I do not believe in killing innocent babies, especially when they are capable of surviving outside of the womb.

You say capital punishment for a child rapist is inhumane, but throwing away a live infant is morally acceptable. Either you are yanking my chain or you are severely fucked up in the head. I am not sure which, but trying to answer that is a waste of my time.

This is rubbish, this baby had a chance at survival. And there are other people alive today who were failed abortions that are exceedingly glad that such distinctions are not so savagely applied by law.

This is absolute nonsense. One of my best friends was born prematurely during the 2nd trimester. With all due respect, you don't know jack shit.

They were born after the 23rd week then. 22 or before and there is zero percent chance. 23 or after and they need major medical support and the chances are still very low.

However, the autopsy can prove that it was born alive and should have been treated. In fact, it already has.

So far the only person here who wants to reject science and knowledge and go into philosophical beliefs are not the people who would have tried to save this baby's life.

imho premature, especially very premature births should not be put on life support or given extreme medical support

the whole thing is a problem and a mess

another question that the article does not address is just how viable was the birth

still, throwing it away was a bit extreme, oat, life can be very tenacious...

Premature babies don't affect the gene pool. That's like saying that you are ruining the gene pool because you breed after you got your leg cut off.

if the baby survives, it will lead to future problem births...assuming it reproduces
 
I find it odd that some here think its ok to kill an infant, but capital punishment is barbaric. Others think abortion is murder but capital punishment and war are fine.

Taking a life is taking a life. Rationalizations and justifications are window dressing.


In this case, I would question whether the baby was saveable. 22 weeks is VERY premature. There might be a very slim chance if the birth had taken place in a hospital with a quality neonatal unit standing by. But not at a clinic with no Dr present.

But the way this was handled is abhorrent. To bag a living baby like it was trash is horrible.

I also think that this is not indicative of most modern abortion clinics.
 
Post term abortions should be allowed up to 18 yrs.
After all you are not really sure you want to keep them till they go thru teenagerdom.
