While I agree that the welfare state provides a lot of power to the left, I don't think they've ever really cared how financially solvent the system is. If anything, they would want more people to be on the welfare state as opposed to less. If they cared about the solvency of the welfare state, then they'd be against open borders, for example.

I think the main reason the left likes abortion is because it fits the social agenda of the left. The left continually promotes what it views as personal freedom while rarely encouraging any sense of personal responsibility. Abortion is the means by which people can engage in sex with the least concern about responsibility.

That being said, I do think abortion should be legal. It's just that many on the left seem to celebrate it rather than viewing it as a last resort.

Hey Stoney, if you want to control a strangers body that much, why don't you move to a country where women can be beaten to death or raped for walking to the local market without a male escort? What's your take on the Roman Catholic Church being nailed for aiding and abetting pedophiles and rapists? Inquiring minds want to know....well, actual they want to laugh.
 
The real reason the left supports abortion rights is we think a woman should have the right to make their on decisions about their bodies and their lives. I have no right to tell them what to do, no matter what I believe. Is is patriarchic to think you should decide for women and they have no say. You feel you should have the power to decide what they will do .That is so wrong.
It also spills over to all aspects of their lives, from schooling to work to mental well being. Just mind your own business.
That is the real reason.

We had abortion declared illegal many years ago. It was a terrible time. Teens, and adult women went for back alley abortions. They were expensive and dangerous. Desperate women and their escorts were beaten and robbed. Sometimes raped and killed. The procedures themselves were botched and they wound up in ERs and hospitals. Some died and suffered serious damage.
It was a huge topic of conversation. Books and movies were made with it as a theme. It was never about the good ending abortion did, because it didn't.
Stopping legal abortion did not end it, but created larger and more serious problems that infected society.
Girls tried self abortion with bad results. They did serious damage to them selves in a desperate attempt to end it.

What you did was stick your head out of your hole only to have it kicked in a figurative sense so you could go back into hiding to heal up.

Let me know when those of us whose wallets you want to control because the woman, when given the choice, decides to have a child she can't afford then expects those of us she told to butt out to support the little bastard have a choice in that matter. What you support is the woman having the choice and someone else footing the bill when HER choices are ones she can't afford.
