...And I missed it!

I was working in Mid-town in a tall building and didn't feel a thing as the quake (a pretty tiny one at that) was going on back home in West L.A.

The good news is that nothing at home was even slightly out of order.

The only quake experience I have is a two-point-something that happened to hit in North Carolina a couple years back. Couldn't feel a thing, and if they hadn't later reported the news, I would have thought it was a bunch of two-by-fours falling off the back of a truck.

When did you leave North Carolina Adam?

it usually takes at least a 3 before i notice one, but then i was born in la la land

good luck on the next one

I dont remember anything under a 4 that I have felt.

I have been through quite a few and they are really nothing to worry about until the big one hits.

The big one is going to make one hell of a mess but most will survive it.

the northridge quake almost did me in...

Sorry to hear that , that is what happens when the epicenter is right under you.

I have been through earthquakes all my life and the reality is I will much more likely die in a car crash.

When did you leave North Carolina Adam?

I left my job in Raleigh back in August and went to work in Michigan starting some new chapters of Young Americans for Liberty, and then I finished that up in November and came out here after Thanksgiving.

My family is still out there, so I'm not giving up on the place!

You left North Carolina for Michigan? Why did you leave the country? ;-)

I miss Davidson a lot.....particularly now that it's winter time here in Ohio. Oh well.....a lot of similarities between Charlotte and Columbus. Both are great places to live. I was offered a position in Santa Anna with my present employer but turned it down cause there was no cost of living increase to compensate for the astronomical cost of housing out there. I wasn't to particularly impressed with the area when I went to visit either.

When a good one hits, you won't be avoiding it in any building. Believe me, you feel it.

My house in Ontario has a completely wood beam ceiling. Huge 12 foot beams that slant down from a Massive peak beam the runs the whole length of the house. Tung and groove dark stained wood. Its gorgeous! Its just a old fifties track house but things like this and the transom light windows in it make it very handsome for a track house.

It may come down in the big one but anyone who makes it to a doorway is going to be just fine.

The huge wood beams will have wiggle room and are very LARGE and would have no reason to break because they can move with the shaking.

Until we all hit the recession, you would have thought Michigan was another country! That was a weird place to spend the election season.

It's frustrating to have to pay so much to live in California. To know that I could own a house in North Carolina for what I pay monthly in L.A. is a little disturbing. But I'm cutting corners and trying to weather the storm while I look for solid work.

I am hooked on most of the weather here. Not that it never gets chilly, but I just hate snow and ice. I love North Carolina's weather 10 months of the year, but the winter is still cold relative to here.

Haha!!! I made a similar comment to a gal I was with last night about the U.S. needing to downsize and we should just give away Michigan.

I lived in this house during the Northridge quake and rode out a 5.2 in it that was epicentered just a couple of miles away.

She moved like a dream and then just settled back in with not even cracked walls.

I swear the house is built so well you could practically turn it upside down and shake it and set it back down without anything happening.

Well you got out of Michigan just in time cause an NC winter aint shit compared to Michigans. A Michigan winter is like 9th grade algebra in South Carolina......long and hard!!

Who would take it? After 8 years of Bush the Canadians are all ready pissed off enough and we sure don't need to aggravate them further by offering them Michigan! ;)

When would the Canadians have ever wanted Michigan? I've live in Canada, they're not that dumb.

It's such a nice day I'm going to do the chant myself...

O-H

I-O!

There was an earth quake in Jersey years ago. It felt like a big truck driving by.
