2009 - may it be the best year

I know its the same old platitudes that are expressed every year. But I do wish everyone a great year.

May you get the happiness you want, and have the good fortune (good sense?) to see it when it happens.

I'm sure 2009 will be full of the same old combination of misery, despondency and woe which coloured this most wonderful of years, 2008.

But let's not be too optimistic, though.

Anyway, best of luck with it and i've got my fingers crossed for you, WM, that this could be the year.

I do apologise if i sound a little too upbeat this fine morning. I'm usually quite underwhelmed by New Year but this year umpteen people have already commented on my joyous demeanour.

What are you guys doing for tonight? Well, I can guess that Charver is going to get pissed in some pub, and hopefully write a songblog about it a couple of days from now when he comes to. But everyone else?

I am staying in this year. My bf is driving back this morning, and will get back sometime this afternoon. We're going to stay in, I bought some champagne, and we're going to get takeout. Things are going so great between us, that that's all I want to do. I dont' want to be around other people in a noisy place. I'm looking forward to it. Some years I've gone out though, and done the whole big New Years Eve thing. Sometimes I even had fun.

We will be staying in too. We have some bubbly getting cold and no desire to be jostled in a crowd of drunks.

YOu know what this just made me think of...one year, I got really drunk, I think I was at the Savoy, I forget where, but god I was drunk. And I was wearing this crazy 80's dress, I think this was 1989/1990. A low cut, short, gold lame horrid dress, that i would die being caught in today. Anyway, I ended up on our local channel 12 news, in one of those freaking 30 minute loops? And they played me talking drunkenly on camera, because they had been at this place interviewing "revelers", all freaking New Year's day, every half an hour. I never heard the end of it at work. Never.

Your biggest hope then is that no one recorded it?

I have had to live down some pics from years ago. Its funny how bad the clothes look now, when we thought they looked so great then.

Gold lame'? Somehow it fits with drunken revelry of the past.

Isn't it? I really thought I looked hot. I saw that dress in the store, I think I got it at Pizazz, or 5,7,9, one of those stupid stores you shop at when you are 20, and I was like, wow, that is so gorgeous. Can you imagine? It was like a freaking hooker dress. lol

I don't think all decades are like that. I look at pics of myself from the mid 90's, with the little flower dresses coupled with a jeans jacket and I still think it's a cute look. The 80's though, I guess they were like the 70's as far as fashion goes. You just want to forget. I have seen some pics of my parents from the 70's, and it just makes you cringe.

The 70's had some good stuff. I remember Levi's jackets, button down collar shirts, loafers ect. Those were not too bad.

But I can top you on the fashion horror stories, and the worst part is that my kids have seen the pictures. (they are hidden now)

Sometime in the mid to early 70's, I had a canary yellow leisure suit. Nothing like bright polyester in the worst style known to man for making your kids laugh. I even had the loud dark print shirt that I wore with it. Shirt collar over the leisure suit coat and all.

At the time it was cool and I didn't have to wear a tie to church. But it is certainly one of those cringe moments looking back.

Actually, if you still have it i'm sure it would a very highly sought after item amongst the fashion conscious German bidders on eBay.

No, no pimping. I was in junior high then.

Stiil have it? I barely saved the pictures of it, the last thing I need is the physical evidence. Although I am sure it would have held up, there was not a natural fiber in the entire outfit.

I have resolved to post more old tat next year.

You remind me a great deal of a brit friend I made on another site.

We swapped some real mail and a couple of packages of food stuffs. The Jaffa cakes were great, but the other snack thing he sent was horrible.

If that pic ever appeared anywhere, I would leave the internet forever.

There are certain things my dignity couldn't abide. lol And that leisure suit is the biggest one I can think of.
