Florida has record high deaths from Covid-19

I don't think the oral form is used anymore in America. There are four shots before age 6. Children hate it, but it is essential.

I think he is thinking of Smallpox vaccine, which is no longer used.

You are right; they still use the oral form in other countries but not in the U.S. The oldest of my five kids was born in 1975. He never got the smallpox vaccine; they quit giving it a couple years earlier. So no one under 50 is protected.

Trump has predicted the control of Covid and its end since February. I suppose rightys don't remember that, or do they disremember it? It was a big-time Trump claim in many speeches. It has gradually and steadily spread across the nation. Where governors ignored Trump and did the right thing, it is getting under control. But righty states like Texas and Florida are just cranking out Corona.

I knew it was one of them. The point is herd immunity is a thing.

The Smallpox vaccine killed about two out of every million people who got it. So the WHO decided to contain and eliminate Smallpox. It had to be gotten rid of everywhere, or it would come back. Only the WHO could do that. So wherever there was a Smallpox outbreak, everyone around it got the vaccine. It was a targeted herd immunity using a targeted deployment of vaccines. And it was wildly successful.

Of course trump would never allow it today. It is one of the many better things no longer available to us as a nation or a world because of trump and the Alt Right.

Mr. Owl was just telling me that he thinks this is going to last at least a couple more years.

Mr. Owl is quite probably right. It might only last a year more, or it might last decades more, but a couple of years is a good middle estimate.

I was born in 1970, and did not get a Smallpox vaccine. People just a little older than me did get one, so yes about 50 would be the cutoff.

I cannot remember if I got an oral or shot Polio vaccine. I think the oral has a slight problem with possible contagion of the weakened viruses. I caused very, very few deaths among parents, but very few is more than zero, so we no longer use it.

Disremember. Trump says whatever he likes and the Trumpeteers suck off whatever Trump spews.

If Trump said "Potato sack clothes help the economy. I like potato sack clothes. They look grrrrrreat!!!", how many of the RWNJs on this forum would be advocating wearing potato sack clothes? Answer: All of them.

I'm confident a vaccine will be developed and available next year, so at least another yearish. Dr. Fauci is "conservative" when making medical predictions and I trust his judgement.

Same goes for better tests, which currently seem to be batting .500.

I have the scar. Smallpox has ~30% fatality rate. Since routine vaccinations ended in 1972, it became a significant concern after 9/11 when the idea of a bioweapon came up. Nukes are flashier (literally) but effectively spreading smallpox in NY or LA would be as disastrous as a dirty bomb. At the time, the US didn't have enough smallpox vaccine for the population. A third would be dead before it could be made. I have no idea what the status is now.

Through the widespread administration of the smallpox vaccine, doctors declared the smallpox virus “extinct” in the United States in 1952. In 1972, smallpox vaccines stopped being a part of routine vaccinations in the United States.

The creation of a smallpox vaccine was a major medical achievement. But the vaccine left behind a distinctive mark or scar.

While most people who have the smallpox vaccine scar are older, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services did administer the vaccine after 1972 to healthcare workers and smallpox response teams from health departments due to the fear the smallpox virus could be used as a biological weapon by terrorists.

My kids got the oral one as well. I remember the outbreaks as a kid; we weren't allowed to go shopping with mom or to public swimming pools or to birthday parties, off and on. Went to school with a couple different kids who had had it. One had a weak, withered arm, the other walked with leg braces and canes. I also have a vague recollection of a kid who died from tetanus, but because of the nature of the memory I don't trust it -- it could have just been something a parental unit said to scare us. lol

When you can recall things like that in your own relatively-short lifetime, it makes it hard to understand the fools who reject vaccines as "poison" or whatever stupid excuses they come up with.

 How hilariously true.

Personally I'm willing to get the vaccine once tested for efficacy and available. That being said, it's quite within the realm of possibility that we'll need to have a booster every so often. It appears that our antibody protection wanes with time. As Phantasmal mentioned yesterday, Tom Hanks has reported that he's had his antibody levels checked and they have decreased significantly from what they originally were.

We will get this under control eventually. Unfortunately because of covidiots, it is going to take longer than it should and we are going to pay a high price in morbidity and mortality, as well as economically.

Sweden had only one death yesterday, Thailand and Vietnam haven't had any for some weeks. Explain that Salty!!

They cherry pick with the hotspots lol.

Right now it’s TX and FL. Each one is a ‘pending disaster’ and when it doesn’t materialize they forget it happened and move onto the next one.

You think Florida is 'pending'? Texas is 'pending'? Arizona is 'pending' Seriously? What's your criteria for no longer pending. Give me some specifics.

How do you know what the death rate is? The virus was just discovered on December 31st.

Stretch fancies herself a medical expert. Just look at those long, erudite cut-and-pasties.

Seriously, if you listen to her, you won't get the 'rona as long as you dose yourselves with plenty of vitamins, charcoal, zinc, eye of newt, and the tears of a purple fairy.
