Not sure why people are comparing this to Vietnam...Chernobyl is the better comparison.

Like Chernobyl, Trump and his Russian friends lied about the severity, told people it was safe to go outside, silenced whistleblowers, and sent rescue workers into the fray with inadequate PPE.

No one really knows the true death toll from Chernobyl. The Soviet Leadership said only 31 people died, but we know more than 600,000 were sent into Pripyat to clean it up.

True, but a chess player or a vet knows that isn't a sure winning strategy The concepts of "sacrifice your Queen" and/or understanding there are casualties in winning the war are applicable in this situation. In short, China will sacrifice their economy in the short term to ensure a long term win in dominance of the global economy.

I strongly support investigations of any politician where there is evidence of malfeasance.

That said, to see Trump supporters whine about too many investigations while Trump himself still screams "Lock her up" is the height of stupidity and pussified hypocrisy.

Not the same thing.

China doesn't want to wreak havoc on their own economy anymore than any other country does.

The entire world has debt to China and the US is a major trading partner of most or all of these other countries.

If China were to do anything to wreck our economy, the ripple effect would be felt across the globe. Next, all those other countries whose debt China owns would go into collapse too. There go all of China's other debtors and trade partners.

Also, China not only sells the US huge amounts of goods, but it gets huge amounts of goods as well, mainly food.

So not only would they lose their biggest customer as well as all their smaller ones, they'd lose one of their biggest suppliers of grain and other foods.

The world economy is so tightly intertwined that if one of the big players goes down, everyone suffers.

Dude, I think you are missing the point. It's a matter of whether China takes a financial hit will stop them or it chooses to sacrifice short term profit for long term power.

Agreed it's the people's tax money, but if you return all money to the taxpayers, what will happen to the poor? The infrastructure? A lack of enforced trade laws and protections?
